Capable of some useful form when with Nicky Henderson but started to lose his way and looked one to avoid. Both starts for this yard have proved below-par and he's best watched for now.

Progressive over hurdles in 2018 he also won over fences when switched to that sphere returning from a break. Failed to complete in his last two chasings starts and reverts to hurdles off a still workable mark.

The only mare in the field she's dropped in the weights but did take a step back in the right direction at Ffos Las last time. Not won for two years but would have a chance in this company if she can build on her last effort.

Took a Wetherby handicap on his first run back from a wind op in December finally taking advantage of a reduced mark. Disappointed when last seen (race may have come too soon; let down by jumping); on a recovery mission.

Dual winning hurdler including here over 2m last year at around this time but has yet to show his form in handicap company. Looked to still be working his way back when last seen; now has an absence to overcome trying a new trip.

Vodka All The Way33

One of two runners in this race for the yard who looked to be back in form after a wind op having lost his way with Philip Hobbs. Likely to benefit from a return to 3m he looks worth including in calculations.

Fallen a long way from grace and the form that he shoed when he was with Paul Nicholls. Might have needed the run at Warwick last time after 10 months off but dropped away quickly and not hard to overlook here.

Fair in novice hurdles last year he's quickly returned to this sphere after a one race sojourn over fences which ended in a fall. Effective at this trip this course winner doesn't look especially well handicapped; others preferred.

Nearly four years since he gained his sole win over hurdles he seen to be in relatively good form in similar events last summer. Yet to win a handicap he ought to be competitive in this company; will be suited by the drying ground.

Shown improved form since being fitted with a tongue-tie recording two wins on soft ground over shorter trips than today. Good second at Uttoxeter last time out (1lb higher here); form worked out well, has to prove he stays 3m.

Merry Milan33
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-10| J: Alan Johns| T: Nicky Martin| OR:  114| D
7/2
Winner of a maiden hurdle in 2018 he's struggled to a certain extent since (has been tried over fences) in handicaps. Given a chance by the assessor last time back from a break (ran well); needs to build on that run back at 3m.

Forecasts

Merry Milan (7/2), Dubai Angel (5/1), Vodka All The Way (11/2), Manning Estate (15/2), Star of Rory (8/1), Brillare Momento (9/1), Board Of Trade (10/1), Jenkins (12/1), Prabeni (14/1), Mr Caffrey (16/1), Connetable (33/1)

Verdict

An open handicap where plenty can be given a chance without there being an outstanding candidate. Star Of Rory has been in good form of late but now has to prove himself over this trip whilst the well handicapped Board Of Trade may just need the outing and it should be remembered that he hasn’t won for four years. Nicky Martin is doubly represented and both her charges Vodka All The Way and Merry Milan can be given a chance with both looking to enjoy the return to 3m. MR CAFFREY has form figures of 1122211 for Dr Richard Newland and he may well appreciate the return to hurdling after two abortive chase efforts off a mark that looks very workable.
  1. Mr Caffrey
  2. Merry Milan
  3. Star of Rory
