Experienced campaigner, managed one success from eight starts over fences in 2019, scoring at Musselburgh (3m, good; 15-8f) in February. C&D winner on heavy ground in the past from this mark; betting check on seasonal return.

Company: Hurdles/Flat winner well held in two starst over fences so far, including here last month. Has stamina to prove, amongst other things, now stepped up to this sort of trip for the first time.

Much more like it in first-time cheekpieces (retained) over C&D 13 days ago when making every yard and come home unchallenged for 5½L win. Player again having gone up 6lb for his troubles.

Regular here this winter, first past the post in the Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase over 2m3f on penultimate start though lost race in stewards' room. Good third on New Year's Day and now tackles this longer trip for first time from 3lb higher.

Showed little in five starts under Rules in Ireland but did win a 3m point-to-point at Kirkistown (soft-to-heavy) in November. Tailed off in C&D contest won by Ask Paddy 13 days ago on first start for Micky Hammond.

Sole career win in 21 starts came at Bangor in March 2018 over 3m on soft ground from 7lb higher mark. Lost his way after but two runs this season not devoid of promise and mark sliding all the while. First-time visor could help case.

Justified favouritism in poor contest at Newcastle (2m4f, good to soft) last January but poor both runs afterwards and perhaps best watched coming back from 300-day layoff.

Maiden, pulled up over C&D on chase debut this month having gone off a 33-1 chance, race won by Ask Paddy. Was never in contention and can be overlooked for now.

Forecasts

Ask Paddy (10/11), Benarty Hill (7/2), Spirit Of Hale (4/1), Paddling (5/1), Brotherly Company (9/1), Trimmers Lane (14/1), So Satisfied (16/1), Younoso (33/1), K O Kenny (40/1)

Verdict

Both Benarty Hill and ASK PADDY are last-time-out C&D winners, but the suspicion is that the latter achieved more in his win here 13 days ago. Jonathan England's charge therefore is fancied to go better of the two, with both carrying 6lb penalties, and is capable of following up. Paddling is in decent form and should go well, while Spirit Of Hale could have claims from a sliding mark if the visor perks him up and seasonal debutant So Satisfied requires a second glance in the betting.
  1. Ask Paddy
  2. Benarty Hill
  3. Paddling
