2/1
C&D bumper winner by 9L in soft conditions who has been highly tried in that sphere and over hurdles. Appreciated the ease in grade when winning a Newcastle novice hurdle last time (strong in the market), travelled well, handicap debut.

Dual winning chaser but his mistakes in that sphere of late have held him back and he was returned to hurdles last time over 2m4f here. Has a lower mark to work with over hurdles but didn't impress last time, drops in trip with blinkers on now.

Deja Vue18
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: Aidan Coleman| T: A J Honeyball| OR:  122| CD

Progressed steadily over hurdles and although she only had a simple task last time, she completed it with aplomb winning by 40L in a C&D mares' maiden. Handicapper has been far from harsh on her as she enters handicaps for the first time.

Recorded his last win in this event last year off a 6lb higher mark by 8L (11-10 favourite) having won his previous race. Doesn't quite come in on the same wave this time but did look on the way back after having had a wind op at Lingfield last time.

On a roll earlier in the year winning here over hurdles (2m5f, heavy) and following up off the same mark over fences a week later at Sedgefield. Consistent enough afterwards without winning but ran poorly on the Flat when he was last seen.

Sirop De Menthe33
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-10| J: Lucy Gardner| T: Mrs S Gardner| OR:  108| C| D
14/1
Returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines earlier in the year and via another seven-months off has shown very little in three starts. Lost touch easily at Exeter last time, 20lb below last winning mark, hard to see him running to that level.

Mere Anarchyv26
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-10| J: T J O'Brien| T: R Stephens| OR:  108| D
12/1
In reasonable form under both codes during the summer but he found little at Chepstow (fifth) when it mattered last month and with something to prove.

Forecasts

Deja Vue (11/8), Thor De Cerisy (2/1), The Gipper (7/2), Mere Anarchy (12/1), Whoshotwho (12/1), Sirop De Menthe (14/1), Briac (25/1)

Verdict

A race that looks set to be dominated by two of the protagonists that are on the way up with DEJA VUE the choice having continued her race-by-race progress last time over C&D to the tune of 40L. This is obviously a tougher event but she’s not badly treated off a mark of 122. The main danger should come from another handicap newcomer in the shape of Thor De Cerisy he scored in good style at Newcastle two weeks and looks to be heading in the right direction having won his bumper here. The Gipper successful in this race last year off a higher mark should compete with Mere Anarchy (who loves to place) and Briac for the minor berth.
  1. Deja Vue
  2. Thor De Cerisy
  3. The Gipper
