Fortunes have taken a turn for the worse over fences since winning here (3m, heavy) for Harry Fry in March 2018; 0-3 for Enda Bolger in 2019 and reverts to hurdling for another new trainer (bought for £5,000 in July).
Landed the odds at Sedgefield (2m5f, good) last November before bettering that form (second) at Newcastle the following month; low-key on seasonal reappearance in a Class 3 Wetherby handicap (2m3½f, soft) three weeks ago; stable still to fire.
Previously with Paul Nicholls but has raced just once since finishing second of three to Valhalla over fences at Wincanton (1m7½f, heavy) in February 2018; easing in the weights; feasibly of more interest with another run or two under his belt.
Bumper winner for Nicky Richards (Ayr 2m, heavy) before switching to Dan Skelton; broadly consistent in three runs over hurdles (as a novice), including when beaten a head by Vinnie Dev over C&D (soft) 23 days ago; fair mark for handicap debut.
Kept on strongly when returning from a mammoth absence to strike for Gillian Boanas in a 2m seller at Hexham (good) in May; joined this trainer thereafter and remains low mileage; fair fourth to Mr Scrumpy on seasonal reappearance/handicap debut.
Stepped up in trip (to 2m6f, soft) when finishing in excess of 8L third to Winter Getaway at Stratford (maiden) last month; stable among the winners this week, so mildly interesting to see what he's capable of now sent handicapping.
Twice a winner at this track (2m) and clearly appreciates some cut underfoot; 6lb higher than when a game winner (made all) at Bangor (2m½f, soft) in March; may strip fitter for a recent comeback run but stamina unproven beyond 2m.
Landed a gamble when scoring on the Flat at Thirsk (1m4f, soft) in August, swiftly following up over hurdles at Sedgefield (2m1f, good) a couple of weeks later; less effective since with others much preferred.
Nine-race maiden with essentially modest form on his CV since joining Sarah-Jayne Davies; easing sharply in the weights and almost certain to need this run off the back of a 249-day absence; is considered an unlikely winner.
Forecasts
Idee De Garde (5/4), Footloose (7/2), Midnight Moss (9/2), Informateur (11/2), Comber Mill (20/1), Behind Time (28/1), Sam Chisolm (33/1), Near Kettering (33/1), Persian Delight (100/1)
Dan Skelton will almost certainly be satisfied with the opening handicap mark (115) allocated to IDEE DE GARDE following a solid comeback run here 23 days ago. Going under by just a head to Vinnie Dev (caught close home) he demonstrated that this kind of trip was within range (all three previous runs over 2m) and also that he should prove capable of winning over hurdles sooner or later. Possible dangers include the Hexham selling winner Midnight Moss and the handicap debutant Footloose for the in-form Jamie Snowden.
