Nine-race maiden on the flat, who finished 14th of 14 when last seen at Kempton (1m4f; standard to slow) back in August. Yard/jockey combo are both out of form. Cannot be fancied at all on what she has shown to date in her career so far.

Two runs over hurdles have been particularly uninspiring (finished down the field on both occasions). This is his third run within the space of just over a month, so connections are obviously keen to get him qualified for a handicap mark.
Did very little wrong on rules/hurdles debut at Ludlow (2m; good) last month when runner-up to an impressive winner. This looks tougher, so he has place claims if able to reproduce that level of form.
Did well without winning in bumpers last season, including when fourth in a 'Listed' contest at Newbury (2m; good to soft) back in March. Should win races this season, but lacks the benefit of a recent run on hurdles/seasonal debut.
Point-to-point winner who was possibly set too high a standard to reach on rules debut when 12th in a Cheltenham (2m; heavy) bumper last month. This drop in grade should see him go close and he is massively respected.

Runner-up to an exciting sort on hurdles debut at Hereford (2m; good) at the start of the month. Bred to be useful over obstacles (half-brothers Cosmeopolitan and Sula Island both won over hurdles). Obvious claims of getting off the mark.

Showed at least enough ability in a pair of bumpers last season to suggest he can be competitive over obstacles this season. Powerful yard operating at a 28% strike-rate currently, so he has to enter considerations.

Ran better than the finishing position would suggest when fourth on hurdles debut at Fakenham (2m; good) last month. This looks more competitive. Likely to run another encouraging race without threatening the leading contenders.

Four-year-old filly by Dylan Thomas. Makes rules/hurdles debut after finishing well-beaten in fifth in a point-to-point at Garthorpe (2m; good) back in April. Major surprise if she were good enough to win this. Ruled out with confidence.

0-7 on the flat. Shown no improvement for the switch to handicaps under that code. Now makes hurdles debut at a relatively low level. However, it would still be a surprise if he played a leading role in this contest.

Verdict

This is an intriguing contest, with a couple of these evidently thought capable of being above-average. Namely, Mustang Alpha and Celtic Tara. The former was pitched into a Cheltenham bumper on debut for connections. This represents a drop in grade for him, which he should really appreciate. The latter ran nowhere near market expectations when well-backed on debut, only to finish last of seven. She is worth another chance on just her second career start. The selection is PERFECT PREDATOR who is well-related and drew clear of his rivals on hurdles debut recently, only to finish runner-up. He can put that experience to good use and get off the mark at the second attempt.
  1. Perfect Predator
  2. Celtic Tara
  3. Mustang Alpha
