Chasing newcomer ho comes here on the back of wind surgery having shown some decent form over hurdles last year winning here and at Haydock. That last performance was a career-best; off a 7lb higher mark now but of interest all the same.

Tackles fences for the first time having showed improved form and a willing attitude to get off the mark in a Huntingdon novice over this trip a year ago. Struggled on his handicap debut only subsequent start up in trip; absent since that outing.

Hard To Forget209

13/2
Point-to-point winner who was the least exposed in the field when recording his only win under Rules taking a Sedgefield handicap off a 10lb lower mark. Below-par off this mark only start since; makes some appeal now that he goes chasing.

Produced a dominant performance when last seen (yard in good form at the time) when winning a hurdle here over 2m6f last March. Now makes his chasing debut for a yard that do well at this time of year; has to cope with a 10lb higher mark; shortlisted

Shown promise in his last three hurdles starts always looking a work in progress for a test like this especially one where he gets a handy 4yo allowance. Likely to improve again now he gets a trip that will aid his stamina; one to note.

Apple Mack198
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-13| J: M G Nolan| T: R Mitford-Slade| OR:  105

Fell in his only point-to-point start before embarking on a hurdles career where his best effort came when he was second to Cuban Pete here on his handicap debut despite being flattered. Ran poorly after that but may have more to offer over fences.

Damut I'm Out11
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-12| J: Alex Edwards(5)| T: A Ralph| OR:  104

3-7 in point-to-points he's also won over fences and hurdles (lower in the weights in that sphere). Carried out early on in the race at Ludlow last time by a loose horse he deserves another chance here although this looks a deeper race.

The Brothers209
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-11| J: Stan Sheppard(3)| T: R Walford| OR:  103
11/1
Left Colin Tizzard and now makes his debut for a new yard having struggled so far to win a race in 13 starts despite showing some fair form on occasions. Feasibly treated on some of his form but needs to raise his game for his fencing debut.

Fairy Pol32
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-9| J: James Davies| T: Henry Oliver| OR:  101

Disappointing for the most part having won on her hurdles debut at Towcester back in October 2017 her infrequent appearances punctuated by breaks. Fair bit to prove on her chasing debut; very much looks the stable second string.

Bolving261
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-8| J: C Gethings| T: V R A Dartnall| OR:  100
13/2
Bumper winner who remains a maiden over obstacles having on a few occasions flattered only to deceive; single-figure odds on 5 of 6 handicap starts. Has bled on a few occasions; returns from a break, may be best fresh but hard to trust overall.

Summons To Court214
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-5| J: Bryony Frost| T: J D Frost| OR:  97
50/1
Irish maiden point-to-point winner who has also been placed in a maiden hunter chase in March (first start for this yard). Failed to complete when last seen; has work to do now that she's pitched into handicap company for the first time.

Verdict

More than one in this that will be of interest now and in the future headed by CUBAN PETE from a yard that traditionally do well at this time of the year and having won well around here over hurdles he looks sure to go well switched to fences despite the more exacting mark. Almazhar Garde is quickly switched to fences a receives a handy age allowance, this test of stamina should see him in a good light. Destined To Shine progressed nicely over hurdles last season and looks to the type to make a chaser with a wind op giving him the opportunity to unlock more progress. Damut I’m Out unfortunate last time and Enrichissant are two others who should be noted in this interesting event.
  1. Cuban Pete
  2. Almazhar Garde
  3. Destined To Shine
