Indian Creak21
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-7| J: David Probert| T: M R Channon| OR:  89
Been busy this term already (this will be his 11th start) winning at Epsom (maiden) and Goodwood nursery both over 7f. Found this trip on the sharp side when finishing fourth in a valuable sales race last time; vulnerable on the ground/off this mark.

Smokey Bear16
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: Thomas Greatrex(5)| T: H & R Charlton| OR:  87| CD
Progressed with each run so far winning his last two over 6f at Newbury and on the AW at Kempton where he carried his penalty in good style. Looks well treated for his handicap debut stepping up to 7f; needs to prove he can handle this surface.

Visible Charm14
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-4| J: W Buick| T: C Appleby| OR:  86| D
Consistent sort who has proved himself on a soft surface finishing third in a good nursery at Newmarket last time (7f). Nottingham maiden win (6f) his only success so far, second twice after that before his latest start; up 3lb, should run his race.

Apollinaire133
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-13| J: Harry Bentley| T: R M Beckett| OR:  81| BF
Made a winning debut at Doncaster (beat two better-fancied rivals) before twice finishing second in novice events at Newmarket/Chester. Far from disgraced under an aggressive ride (6f, heavy) last time; handicap debut, firmer surface may suit better.

Shammah71
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-11| J: S M Levey| T: R Hannon| OR:  79
Winner of a Windsor novice (5f, good) in June she's been defeated in four subsequent starts (last three in nurseries), back to form the last twice. May be exposed now; tries 7f for the first time off, beaten off similar marks in the past.

Wentworth Amigo85
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-9| J: Nicola Currie| T: J A Osborne| OR:  77
Not the easiest to weigh up with his win coming in a three-runner soft ground 5f affair that fell apart. Upped in trip to 6f when last seen he finished well beaten on handicap debut; return to this ground may be a plus, doubts about trip and mark.

No Mercyt21
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-7| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke| OR:  75
Unproven on ground softer than good and struggled last time in a valuable Newmarket sales race over 6f. Yet to win a race his mark looks a fair one on what he's achieved but the ground conditions are a worry on his first try at this 7f trip.

Sir Gordon112
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-0| J: David Egan| T: R J Smith| OR:  66
Just out of the weights his best form came when runner-up on his second start in a Goodwood 5f seller. However, he's been found wanting in that grade twice since at 6f, now makes his handicap debut on ground he would be unfamiliar with.

Forecasts

Visible Charm (2/1), Smokey Bear (11/4), Apollinaire (6/1), Shammah (7/1), Indian Creak (8/1), No Mercy (10/1), Wentworth Amigo (14/1), Sir Gordon (33/1)

Verdict

There’s a real lack of soft/heavy ground form in this opening nursery so some guesswork needs to be involved. Visible Charm looks the tough and hardy sort that will be required here, he’s yet to run a bad race and does have some form in the prevailing conditions he more solid than most. SMOKEY BEAR brings the most progressive form into the race though seeking his hat-trick after carrying his penalty with some aplomb last time; he doesn’t look too harshly weighted for his handicap debut. Shammah is exposed but should run her race while Apollinaire and Wentworth Amigo could get involved if outcoming some negatives surrounding their chance.
