On a losing run stretching back nearly two years and his last four outings have been pretty dismal. Claims on his second at Yarmouth (1m6f, good to firm) back in May and is 2lb below his last winning mark.

C&D winner in the Summer but has been out of form since, including returning to this track four weeks ago, beaten 11¼L into eleventh (1m2f). This longer trip will suit but even that might not be enough for him bounce back given recent efforts.

Won over hurdles at Plumpton (2m, good to firm) 13 months ago but fell at Hereford shortly afterwards and hasn't shown any form since in three starts. Finished tenth, beaten 27L, at Brighton (1m4f, good to soft) 18 days ago.

Formerly with Richard Hannon, she broke her duck at Southwell (1m4f, Fibresand) on her fourth start for this yard 10 days ago. Seemingly handled this surface in her younger days and with this trip likely suit, has strong claims of following-up.

Won at Lingfield (1m2f, Polytrack) earlier in the year off this mark and was second at Bath (1m2f, firm) on her next start. All four runs since then have been dismal (1m3½f-2m) and there are still lingering stamina concerns.

Only had six starts but first signs of promise dropped to this grade at Brighton (1m4f, good to soft) when finishing third last time. Cheekpieces added, goes up trip and there may well be more to come from this lightly-raced gelding.

Only Flat win came over 2m and stays 3m over hurdles so no surprise that he found 1m3½f too sharp at Windsor (good) last time, his first run for this yard. This extra yardage will be helpful but will want even further to be seen at his best.

Only one win in 35 starts and had been in the doldrums until going down by ¾L at Southwell (1m4f, Fibresand) 16 days ago. Not a strong case to back that up and still no concrete evidence she stays this trip.

Just the one win to his name at Southwell but has even been out of form at that venue in recent starts. Weakened at Catterick last time (1m6f, soft) and readily passed over.

Showed a modicum of ability on his first two starts last season. Only one outing this year, when seventh, beaten 6¼L at Salisbury (1m4f, good to firm) five months ago. Up in trip again and is unexposed from a leading yard.

Posted her best effort when second at Lingfield (1m3½f, good to firm) behind an in-form filly two starts ago, beaten ¾L. Weakened tamely at Wolverhampton (1m4f, Tapeta) last time out and will need to bounce back in order to have any chance.

No great shakes in seven runs so far but there have been glimmers of hope more than once from her, including on her only start over this trip at Wolverhampton in January. Kept on over an inadequate 1m2f here last time and the longer trip a big plus.

Finished a fair third over this trip at Lingfield (good to firm) two runs back and wasn't disgraced filling the same spot when 2m seemed to stretch him last time. Seems to try. which helps at this level, but might find a couple too good.

Easy enough to excuse his last run at Yarmouth on heavy ground but still hard to be enthusiastic given his 16lb drop in the weights this year, at no point ever looking like the decline was about the halted. Visor back on in place of blinkers.

Four heavy defeats on the bounce after stepping up to 2m here last time. His third, beaten 1¾L, at Chepstow (1m2f, good to firm) off 11lb higher mark would give him a squeak but, given those recent efforts, it's hard to be enthusiastic.

First real signs of promise when plugging on for third at Wolverhampton (1m6f, Tapeta) last time. Will need to build on that considerably to shake up the market principals but only had eight starts to date.

Forecasts

Ignatius (9/2), Falls Creek (5/1), Blue Beirut (5/1), Mongolia (6/1), Midport (7/1), Pecorino (7/1), Homesick Boy (14/1), Vin D'Honneur (14/1), Strictly Art (20/1), Garrison Law (20/1), Seventii (20/1), Teemlucky (20/1), General Allenby (25/1), Carvelas (33/1), Ruler Of The Nile (33/1), Hermosa Vaquera (50/1)

Verdict

Having improved with each start for Mick Appleby, MONGOLIA obliged in good style at Southwell ten days ago and is taken to win again in a race with little solid recent form. Falls Creek is lightly raced and her best run came over this trip whilst Pecorino is also unexposed and showed his best form at Brighton in this grade on his most recent start.
  1. Mongolia
  2. Falls Creek
  3. Pecorino
