Both career wins have come over C&D, the most recent of which was off this handicap mark in January. Has been mostly consistent without winning since then but as a result the handicapper has been slow to relent. The drop in grade is a plus.
Had raced exclusively between 5f and 6f until trying 7f here last time. No immediate improvement was obvious and despite being well-handicapped on his best 2017/2018 form, he doesn't seem to be crying out for this trip.
Ran fairly to finish fourth over C&D seven weeks ago, beaten 2¼L. Won twice here earlier in the year (7f/1m) including off a 2lb higher mark and it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see him go close. Yard having a quiet time, however.
Admirable veteran who runs his race more often than not but hasn't won since a C&D victory 15 months ago. Probably won't be far away and could make the frame but likely to find his younger rivals too good.
Hit with a 6lb rise for comfortable C&D success three runs back but has ran to that level in defeat on both starts since at Kempton (1m, Polytrack) and Wolverhampton (1m½f, Tapeta). Likely to make a bold bid but handicapper maybe in charge.
Rounded off 2018 with a win at Kempton (7f, Polytrack) and ran well next time here over 7f in April, finishing second. Ran creditably without looking like winning in three handicaps since any may need to drop a few pounds before getting involved.
Made a winning handicap debut over 7f here in April and ran well at Wolverhampton (1m½f, Tapeta) shortly after to finish third. Left two poor efforts behind back here over C&D 84 days ago and can't be ruled out if freshened up by her absence.
Scraped home by a nose at Nottingham (1m½f, good to firm) in May but form has regressed in his three starts since. Now 1lb lower and did win on the Polytrack at Kempton last year so conditions will suit if he can bounce back.
Ended last year with a win at Leicester (7f, good to soft) and picked up this season with two good placed efforts. Has been out of form since then in three outings, most recently beaten 7½L at Beverley (1m½f, soft) 32 days ago.
Has dropped 12lb this year but that down to his moderate form since joining this yard. No signs of any arrest to the decline last time at Kempton (1m4f, Polytrack) when beaten 88L. Easily passed over.
Forecasts
Harbour Vision (9/2), Philamundo (9/2), Glory Awaits (5/1), Universal Effect (5/1), Filles De Fleur (6/1), Carnival Rose (9/1), John Clare (10/1), Rambaldi (12/1), Consequences (16/1), Mr Minerals (33/1)
A pretty tight with plenty of reservations but FILLES DE FLEUR gets the tentative vote. Still lightly raced, she has won and finish second on both her runs here and could have been freshened up by a short break. Another who goes well at this track is Philamundo. He has been contesting better races of late and should be helped by this drop in grade whilst Universal Effect has performed creditably in each of her last three runs and has place claims despite the handicapper seemingly being in charge.
- Filles De Fleur
- Philamundo
- Universal Effect
