Had ability on the Flat for Roger Varian and has shown some aptitude for hurdling; not seen out since finishing fourth at Huntingdon in a novice hurdle back in May. but looks fairly treated for handicap debut, and chances if fit.

Won a similar event to this at Market Rasen back in March, but hasn't repeated that effort in three subsequent starts and clearly consistency not his strong point; still 5lb higher than that win, and others make more appeal.

Been running with great consistency this summer/autumn, usually makes the running; not getting a lot of help from the handicapper as a result, and he might want better ground, but will give it his best shot.

Only had the four starts, has improved a little each time and her second to Tigeralley here in heavy ground on her final start wasn't a bad effort at all; should have more to come and has a good chance if ready after an absence.

Just the four starts over hurdles, hasn't shown a lot so far but did look like he was learning on the job for much of last season, so could improve here; needs to, in truth, but that's not impossible. Check market for support.

Thrashed them silly at Kelso in January, a win that saw her hiked up 14lb, but still looked like she had more to come when only just touched off in a chase on final start. Faster they go the better her chance late, and she's not discounted.

Twice a winner on the Flat (for Gay Kelleway) but shown very little over hurdles so far; as a result, gets a low-looking mark to operate from and yard can land left-field gambles, so watch the market is the advice.

Just the one win in 15 starts, that coming back in 2016, and looked regressive for much of last year; hard to make much of a case for unless there's a sudden form revival, which looks unlikely.

Has really got the hang of things on his last three starts, winning once and runner-up on the other two occasions; on same mark as latest solid effort and if the ground keeps drying out, he comes into the equation.

No more than spits and spots of ability in seven starts but does look well handicapped if his bumper form is taken literally; yard can land gambles (and have done at this track) in the past, so watch the market carefully is the advice.

Looked very much on the downgrade when last seen and that was well over 18 months ago, so not a lot to recommend his chances today. Yard out of form too.

No win in 25 starts and is going nowhere quickly at present; chance not obvious to see, and others readily preferred.

Veiled Secret (15/8), Percy Thrower (11/2), Patsio (6/1), Choochoobugaloo (10/1), Ace Ventura (10/1), Britanio Bello (11/1), Astra Via (11/1), Here's Bingo (12/1), Canadian George (16/1), Aniknam (22/1), Jo Cashflow (33/1), No Alarm (40/1), Global Wonder (80/1)

Verdict

In an open looking event, ASTRA VIA makes more appeal than most, mainly on the grounds she's unexposed and should have more improvement to come this season. She's already demonstrated a good level of ability and if she can build on that, could be the one to be with. Veiled Secret has the form in the bank and should be on the premises, and both Ace Ventura and Choochoobugaloo have form that gives them chances. Watch the market for any support for either Here's Bingo or Global Wonder.
