Took his first two chase starts in good style before finding his good run of form coming to a halt at Sedgefield in April (looked amiss). Travelled well when making an eye-catching return at Kelso recently, likely to spot on now.
Has a good record fresh and embellished that statistic when winning after a year off at Kelso last time off a 5lb lower mark. This race looks sure to test him a little more but may well have more to give from a yard just finding its feet again.
Dual course winner over 2m4f who ended the season a low-note having recorded the second of those aforementioned wins in March off a 3lb lower mark. Jumped poorly/ran lazily last two starts; shorter trip plus and absence lessens his appeal.
A winner over hurdles last year in Ireland he's yet to show anything over fences having switched stables; turned in a very laboured effort last time. Drops down the handicap but can only be watched unless there was significant market support.
Appears best when held up with his last two victories coming when those tactics are used; suited by the way the race developed when winning at Bangor in August off 5lb lower. Given too much too do last time at Kelso; trip looks on the sharp side.
Has some useful form to his name in the past but doubtful if he can run to that level now with his recent efforts rather underwhelming. Second at Perth last months but beaten 18l and doesn't appear to be a winner waiting to happen.
Stable won this last year but will need to turn around this new recruit to be able to repeat those feats. Backed at long odds when last seen in Ireland but ran poorly in first-time blinkers; comes here with questions to answer.
Produced a rather mixed bag of efforts since winning at Hexham last November off a 5lb lower mark over this trip. Did take something of a step back in the right direction last month on his return to action; would need to progress again to get involve
Failed to win last season disappointing on several occasions and never getting anywhere near the level of performance he showed the season before (won four times). Back from a long absence; can only be watched for now.
Took to fences well enough (not bred for the task) when winning his first two starts in this sphere; may have found the race coming too soon when failing to in his hat-trick bid. Back from a break, off a 2lb lower mark, must be respected.
More miss than hit over he summer month but did manage to win in the dying strides from a game front-runner at Sedgefield in August. Well below form behind Honourable Gent at Kelso; ran poorly on the AW last time; hard to get a handle on.
Took an age to get off the mark last season finally doing so here over 2m4f recording his second course victory. Achieved very little in three quick runs at Perth last month easily brushed aside last time; mark on the slide once more.
Forecasts
Le Frank (9/2), Sporting Press (9/2), Zolfo (7/1), Never Up (8/1), Vocaliser (8/1), Honourable Gent (9/1), Felix Mendelssohn (12/1), Instingtive (14/1), Road Warrior (14/1), Inca Gold (16/1), King's Wharf (18/1), My Renaissance (18/1)
Not that many with strong credentials given the size of the field with SPORTING PRESS give the vote on the back of a decent reappearance run at Kelso a month ago when he travelled better than most in the field but indicated that the race was needed. Honourable Gent already a C&D winner looks a danger having returned from a year off to score at Kelso last time by 6L in a race that was full of mishaps and the form may not be as strong as it appears. Felix Mendelssohn may well have benefitted from a break having shown that he can be competitive over fences while Le Frank and Zolfo if the shorter trip doesn’t catch him out can also have a say.
- Sporting Press
- Honourable Gent
- Felix Mendelssohn
