Winner of this contest 12 months ago off a 7lb lower mark. Got back to winning ways last month in a 2m1f good ground handicap chase at Kelso. More needed off revised mark but not one to be writing off just yet.
Lightly raced in the last 12 months. Disappointed when last seen in the Grade 3 Johnny Henderson at the Cheltenham festival in March. Not won since 2016 and now races 24Lb lower than last winning mark. Plenty to prove.
Won over the larger obstacles at the fifth time of asking in a Newcastle 2m½f contest in February off a 3lb lower mark. Beaten since but holds place claims with notable jockey booking.
Goes well fresh and has a win and a place to his name from five starts over C&D. Not to be taken lightly representing a yard with a 45% win and place strike rate at this track in October since 2015.
French chase winner upset subsequent impressive winner Mister Fisher on stable debut over hurdles in November last year. Beaten over timber and the larger obstacles since but looks a progressive type and is shortlisted here.
Better chaser than he is hurdler, the Kayf Tara gelding had future winners Utility and New Millennium behind when landing a Newbury handicap chase in December last year. Beaten since but no surprise to see a big run with notable jockey engagement.
Mixed bag over the larger obstacles in five starts since the turn of the year. Has hit the frame on a previous visit here and capable giving a decent account of himself back at this trip.
Winner of one of his eight starts over fences. Beaten 13L on return to action at Kelso last month. It may be worth noting the yard are without a winner from 14 starters in October at this track in the last four years.
Dual soft ground hurdle scorer as a novice the Gold Away gelding has failed to build on a first win over fences at Newcastle in December in three desperate handicap efforts since, including a 40L reversal when last seen in March.

Ecu De La Noverie (4/1), Theflyingportrait (4/1), Ballyvic Boru (11/2), Sir Egbert (6/1), Top Gamble (7/1), Cool Mix (9/1), The Paddy Pie (14/1), Yorkist (14/1), Treshnish (16/1), Wishfull Dreaming (28/1)
The Tom Lacey-trained SIR EGBERT looked a jumper with a big future when winning a Newbury handicap as a five-year-old with future winners Utility and New Millennium in behind. The Kayf Tara gelding subsequently suffered a couple of defeats but can bounce back here on seasonal debut with the booking of champion jockey Richard Johnson in the plate a major positive. C&D winners Yorkist and Theflyingportrait who landed this contest 12 months ago can provide the biggest resistance to the selection. The Phillip Hobbs-trained Ecu De La Noverie appears capable of hitting the frame while a return to form for Top Gamble would not surprise.
- Sir Egbert
- Yorkist
