Both wins have come on soft to heavy ground, including over an extended 1¼m at Chester in May. Generally running respectably since, but return to this sort of surface makes him of obvious interest..
Is built, if not bred for deep ground, being a heavy-topped gelding, and best recent run when second at Newbury (1¼, soft) in August. Below form since, but well worth a try in these conditions, and not taken lightly.
Two wins on heavy ground at around 1m in May June, and seemed to stay 1¼m when a close third at Chester last time, jut doing a bit too much in front. Sure to go well if having his speed rationed slightly better.
Made all to win a soft-ground Newbury maiden in April, and largely creditable efforts in handicaps since, doing well to hang on for fifth after making much of the running in the Cambridgeshire last time. Claims if over those exertions.
Both wins this season on soft ground over 1¼m, and back to form when third of 14 to Deinonychus over C&D last time, albeit beaten nearly 7L. Needs a little more help from the handicapper, or a slice of luck.
Won in the mud at Hamilton last September for Roger Varian, and goes well in such conditions, but has questions to answer after finishing last of 5 to Ayutthaya at Pontefract on his return/debut for new yard last month.
Won a C&D maiden for Saeed Bin Suroor five years ago, but very lightly raced since, and well beaten on only previous start for current yard. Returning from well over two years on the sidelines here.
Like stablemate Flight Officer, he's an ex-Godolphin horse with big gaps in his resume. Off 19 months before last year's return, and coming back after another 16 month hiatus now having been below his best in a truncated campaign.
Stepped up on encouraging Newbury third (1m1f, soft) to go two places better at Sandown (1¼m, good to firm). Has been well held on heavy ground before, but seems to be improving now.
Progressive in qualifying, and put up a career best when winning a 1¼m novice at Beverley (heavy) last time by 6L. Needs more now handicapping, but unexposed, and should progress again.
Forecasts
Majestic Dawn (9/4), Skyman (3/1), Junooh (4/1), Global Gift (7/1), Mr Top Hat (9/1), Music Seeker (10/1), Sputnik Planum (16/1), Jamil (50/1), Novelty Seeker (66/1), Flight Officer (66/1)
Plenty who will relish the ground, but the feeling is that JUNOOH has been let in lightly for his handicap debut, and he can make a bold bid in receipt of weight all round. Global Gift is running really well and looks the main danger ahead of Skyman, another improver but one with a bit to prove on the ground.
- Junooh
- Global Gift
- Skyman
