The form pick in this field on what he has shown so far, particularly when winning here over 6f (soft) in July. Out of his depth in the Group 2 Gimcrack back here last time, but should be much more competitive in this line-up.

Won a Lingfield novice event (5f, good) in May. Seen only once since, when a 1L third in trying to defy a penalty at Southwell in August. Open to improvement. Has it to prove on slow ground, but can't rule him out.

Made all to win readily on her Kempton (5f, AW) debut last week, justifying favouritism in good style. Makes turf debut here on slow ground, but plenty to like about her win, and she could be a major player if stepping up on that success.

Stepped up on a promising debut with a comfortable win at Nottingham (5f, heavy) last week. Penalised for that, but open to better, represents a top yard and certainly can't write her off.

17-2 on debut, when running respectably to be 4L third in a Newcastle novice event (6f, AW). Trainer's runners usually improve for their first run, so he could do better, but he needs a significant step up on that first effort.

20-1 and although he did race prominently for a while, he was a well beaten fourth of seven on debut at Southwell (6f, AW) last month. Much more needed.

Made a promising debut at Thirsk, but some way below that level both here and at Pontefract since. Much more needed.

8-1 on debut, when he didn't settle for some time and therefore we can probably mark up his neck second of 10 in a Thirsk maiden (6f, good to firm) in June. Not seen since, but if he handles cut he would be entitled to enter calculations here.

First foal of a 7½f winning half-sister to Group 2 scorer Ertijaal and two other winners. Represents a top stable that does well here and is 22% with 2yos on turf this season. Interesting debutante.

Forecast

The Bell Conductor (9/4), Strong Power (7/2), Abstemious (4/1), Rosa (8/1), Art Power (9/1), Spirit Of The Sky (10/1), Minhaaj (14/1), Sam's Call (25/1), Evora Knights (66/1)

Verdict

Abstemious has made a good start and can be forgiven that Gimcrack run now in this more realistic field. He should be capable of going close, while the William Haggas-trained newcomer Minhaaj can probably acquit herself well. The Bell Conductor caught the eye on debut, and has been given some time since. He has it to prove on softer ground, but could improve and take a hand again. Strong Power and Spirit Of The Sky are both feared, but preference is for ROSA, who won with a bit in hand on debut and can follow-up.
  1. Rosa
  2. Spirit Of The Sky
  3. Abstemious
