Bolted up over C&D last time leaving behind his slow starting tendencies that had blighted his previous starts. Experience obviously counts for plenty at this track but his last win did come in a weak race; now penalised, possibly vulnerable.

Beaten some 38L on his Musselburgh debut the only step forward that could be taken from his most recent start over C&D was the fact that he was beaten only 16L this time. May well be better with a mark in nurseries after this qualifying run.
Produced a promising first effort on the AW at Chelmsford over this trip and his pedigree gives hope that he can be effective on this surface. Weak in the betting on debut he's open to progress getting weight from his principal rival.

Not yet the finished article despite improving from his debut when taking the runner-up slot at Thirsk last time over 7f (ran very freely). Needs to prove himself on this surface; sire has a decent strike-rate on Fibresand, should be considered.

Well beaten on both his starts so far with the latest defeat coming over C&D showing very little after being slow away. Not one to be interested in at this stage.

One of three from this stable with none really looking as though they will trouble the principals. Gelded since his spring debut he did show a little more over 1m at Ascot last time; first run on Fibresand, aim must be a mark for handicaps.

Already gelded for his debut he only showed greenness when slowly away on the Tapeta at Newcastle over 6f. Now makes his Fibresand debut; would need to show more to get involved.

Shaped with some promise on both of his starts so far over 6f with the run at Chester last time showing that he was being brought along gradually. From a yard that do well here and market positivity should be noted, remains of interest.

Pedigree isn't a striking one for this surface with the stamina element suggesting he'll need a greater test than this 7f. Tried over 1m last time at Kempton, finished well held but did show some promise; one for staying nurseries when he has a mark.

Completes the stable trio and is bred to handle this surface but the stable have a very modest 1-39 record with 2yo newcomers since 2015 (0-13 this year). Best watched on that basis.
Yard 14-90 with 2yo newcomers this year; War Command filly, £38,000 yearling from a yard that have a good record here. Half-sister to numerous winners including US winner up to 1m3f A Bit Special; interesting newcomer, note a market move.

Forecasts

Challet (5/2), Jump The Gun (7/2), Tafish (4/1), Animal Instinct (9/2), Seven Emirates (5/1), Warne's Army (25/1), Miss Carla (25/1), Walls Have Ears (50/1), Handsome Yank (50/1), Ami Li Bert (66/1), El Jefe (100/1), Ochre Riu (100/1)

Verdict

The proven ability to handle this surface is always an advantage and Jump The Gun via his C&D win last time certainly has nothing to find on that score but he started slowly on occasions and the worry is that trait will resurface against some useful types. Both Challet and Seven Emirates have shown enough promise to be considered threats along with the newcomer Warne’s Army from the Johnston yard that are always to be respected with the 2yo newcomers. ANIMAL INSTINCT made the most promising debut at Chelmsford though in a strong looking contest and he’s taken to build on that promise despite the change in surface.
  1. Animal Instinct
  2. Seven Emirates
  3. Challet
