Bled after disappointing at Hexham (forced a strong pace on that occasion); smooth and very taking winner on his second start over fences at Perth (2m4f, heavy) last week; looks very tough to beat under a 7lb penalty.

5lb higher than when ridden clear by Brian Hughes (partners Murphy's Law) to score over C&D (good to soft) in January; absent since an unsuccessful spin over hurdles at Perth in April (a 159-day break).

25-1 winner of a Gowran Park novice hurdle (2m, good) for Joseph O'Brien last November; modest over fences so far (0-5), including when finishing last on debut for Ben Haslam at Hexham (2m4f, good) - a race which also featured Murphy's Law.

12/1
Strapping chaser (2-2 over fences at Sedgefield); unfortunately lost his way towards the tail-end of 2017 and hasn't been seen in competitive action for 651-days; market helpful in assessing his chances post wind surgery.

Likes Hexham, although that love affair has been sorely tested since last September (F3UU); 4lb lower than when finishing 1¾L second to Reverse The Charge here (2m5f, good) in October 2018; much preferred stablemate of No Such Number.

Her 2019 Sedgefield form figures read (73212), only headed close home by My Renaissance over 2m here (good) in August; positively is very lowly-weighted, but she does have stamina to prove at 2m3½f.

Verdict

MURPHY'S LAW created a striking impression when a bloodless winner at Perth last week and should prove very tough to beat under a 7lb penalty despite a welter-burden of 12st 5lbs. In locking onto the front-running Braavos, he did far too much early on his chasing debut at Hexham, which was clearly to his detriment come the finish. Under a less forceful ride at Perth, he was a totally different proposition and appeals as the type to win more races over fences. The consistent Ringaringarosie is a potential threat off a lightweight if her stamina reserves last, while the market is helpful in assessing the chances of the returning Maxed Out King.
  1. Murphy's Law
  2. Ringaringarosie
  3. Maxed Out King
