Alben Spirit18
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: T Hamilton| T: R A Fahey| BF
7/4
£38,000 juvenile; has shown a similar level of ability in both starts, finishing third to Clan Royale at York (5½f, good) earlier this month; is bred to stay further (7f+) so softening ground conditions could well favour.

Brazen Pointt28
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby
3/1
50,000gns yearling; 50-1, slowly away and appeared very inexperienced when ninth of 13 on debut at Carlisle (6f, good to firm) four weeks ago; work to do with Alben Spirit (fourth) on that evidence; stablemate of Northern Celt.
€17,000 yearling; big prices and only marginal improvement from first start (turf) to second (AW); far better judged once introduced to nurseries; others more likely at this stage.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: Nicola Currie| T: J A Osborne| OR:  77| BF
6/1
Caught close home when beaten a neck by Old News in a Windsor novice (6f, good to firm) in July; highly tried next time before disappointing on the AW at Wolverhampton (5f); any prolonged rain would be unlikely to aid his cause.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: G Lee| T: Micky Hammond
33/1
Eighth foal; half-brother to the 5f-6f winner Perfect Pasture, and the 5f scorer Perfect Peak; appears to be moderately drawn in stall 11, yet should be monitored in the market for any signs of confidence.

100/1
28,000gns yearling; gelded following a low-key debut at Beverley (5f, good to firm) in July; dwelt and always in rear when last of ten at York (5½f, good) two months later; stablemate of Brazen Point.

Horse silk
11/1
Finjaan colt; half-brother to three winners (5f-2m); didn't finish too far (fifth) behind today's rival Alben Spirit (third) at York (5½f, good) earlier this month; needs a fraction more and a wide draw (stall 12) tempers enthusiasm slightly.

(4)
Horse silk
50/1
52,000gns yearling; half-brother to the 7f handicapper Jaleel; 16-1 when eighth of ten to Plymouth Rock on debut at Thirsk (7f, good) just under three weeks ago; drops back in trip.
9
(9)
Horse silk
4/1
£16,000 vendor yearling; eighth foal; half-brother to four winners, including the winning hurdler Always Resolute; jockey bookings would indicate that he is preferred to stablemate Superiority.

Horse silk
40/1
34,000gns yearling; fifth foal; sister to the 5f winner Suwaan; half-sister to two winners, including Mutadhamen (1m Qatar); stablemate of Total Distraction; second string on jockey bookings?

Verdict

With plenty of rain falling in the Yorkshire area since Tuesday, conditions have deteriorated ahead of racing. Should a scenario develop which sees many of the runners finishing on the stands side rail, then a usually disadvantageous high draw can be overcome. Furthermore, with the vast majority of these inexperienced juveniles yet to tackle rain-softened ground a cautious approach is advised. On paper ALBEN SPIRIT boasts the strongest form, and hailing from the stable of Richard Fahey can be expected to take plenty of beating. If stamina comes into play, he should deliver the goods as a son of the 7f-1m AW scorer Priti Fabulous.
  1. Alben Spirit
  2. Sam's Call
  3. Total Distraction
