Hasn't run on the AW (0-4) since November 2017; 5lb higher than when beating Limerick Lord by 1½L at Brighton (1m, good to firm) on her penultimate start; her last 12 starts have come at that south coast seaside venue.

Without a win in nine starts on turf since beating Mans Not Trot by 1½L over C&D last October; is fairly attractively weighted (off a 5lb lower mark) if able to rediscover that form; could be worth chancing in a poor race.

Sole win (1-12) came on the AW at Wolverhampton (6f) last August; hasn't been running too badly, yet is beginning to be shown some grace by the handicapper; fair keeping on fourth at Brighton (7f) a fortnight ago.

Eight-race maiden; has produced similar efforts in defeat on his last couple of starts, including when a weakening fifth to Joyful Dream at Brighton (7f, good to firm) 15 days ago; non-runner at Catterick on Saturday.

Back to winning ways with a game and determined Class 7 neck win at Lingfield (7f, standard) in August; 3lb higher; hasn't made his mark back in Class 6 handicaps at Newcastle and Kempton subsequently.

Masai Spirit8
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: K Shoemark| T: P J McBride| OR:  52
6/1
Six-race maiden with only limited handicap experience; ran just about her best race to date at Kempton (7f) last week when a fast-finishing third to Cauthen; further progress isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Her form in 7f-1m novice/maiden contests doesn't really amount too all that much, admittedly she was placed at Lingfield (7f, soft) in July; finished last of 11 on handicap debut here (1m2f) six weeks ago; generally unconvincing.

Poor strike-rate (1-39) but has some low-grade placed AW form on his CV from earlier in the year - beaten ½L by Quick Monet over 7f here in May; off for 116 days since; 1lb higher.

No real worthwhile form to date (0-6), and was a comfortably held sixth in a C&D classified stakes three weeks ago; needs a significant upturn in fortunes for the fitting of blinkers; opposed.

Roser Moterp,t115
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Kevin Lundie(5)| T: M Appleby| OR:  45
50/1
Has had plenty of trainers during her racing career, moving onto Dan Skelton (hurdles) after winning on the AW at Wolverhampton for Eve Johnson Houghton; regressive for Mick Appleby (0-7); can a tongue-tie help?

Treasured Companye/s,h127
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: F Norton| T: R C Guest| OR:  45
8/1
Maiden (0-10); comfortably below his 'best' since finishing a keeping on third to Peruvian Summer in a Class 6 handicap at Southwell (7f) in April; revival needed in a new headgear combination (hood and eye-shields).

Forecasts

Penarth Pier (9/2), Paddy's Pursuit (9/2), Edge (5/1), Masai Spirit (6/1), Three C's (6/1), Red Cossack (8/1), Treasured Company (8/1), Emojie (12/1), Harlequin Rose (12/1), Dreamingofdiamonds (28/1), Roser Moter (50/1)

Verdict

A divided Class 6 handicap in which a strong opinion isn't offered. Harlequin Rose has been running well at her favoured Brighton in recent months but has plenty to prove back on the AW for the first time since November 2017, while the eased-in-the-weights Penarth Pier would've made more interest over a shorter trip (7f). The maiden Masai Spirit finished well at Kempton last week, and is much less exposed than the vast majority. However, for small-stakes we'll elect to play the eight-year-old mare EDGE. She was in the winners enclosure on her last visit to this track (October 2018) and is fairly attractively weighted if able to rediscover such form.
  1. Edge
  2. Masai Spirit
  3. Penarth Pier
