Canford Cliffs gelding; lightly-raced on the Flat (0-3) with an official rating of 63; finished a detached last of six in a 7f Brighton median auction maiden last month; must show improvement for the switch to hurdles.
Eight-race Flat maiden (58-rated); showed his best form in that discipline on debut for Colin Tizzard at Salisbury (1m2f, good to firm) in May when beaten 1L by Seascape; improvement needed on hurdles debut.
Won a Galway maiden (7f, yielding) for Gordon Elliott in August 2018; was returning from almost a year off when pulling hard and ultimately running freely in front on hurdles/stable debut at Worcester (2m, good); must settle in order to do better.
Nine-race Flat maiden (60-rated) with glimmers of positive form during the spring (1m2f-1m4f); not as effective since, also lacking fluency on hurdles debut (13-2) at Worcester (2m, good) last month; sports a first-time visor.
Modest on the Flat (0-6), finishing fourth in a 1m3f seller at Goodwood (good) four weeks ago; his earlier hurdles debut at Newton Abbot (2m1f, good to soft) wasn't overly encouraging either - perhaps this is a marginally easier assignment.
Failed to beat a single rival in three runs on the Flat (6f-1m+) and was well beaten on hurdles debut at Worcester (2m, good) when taking a tumble at the final flight (100-1); hood retained; an unlikely candidate.
Raced once on the Flat for Simon Crisford (fair fourth at Wolverhampton) prior to moving on for 18,000gns in July; started 14-1 for hurdles/stable debut at Fontwell (2m2f, good), keeping on from off the pace to finish 2½L second to Zeb Spirit.
More experienced over hurdles than the others (0-3); kept on steadily to hit the frame behind What Will Be at Stratford (2m½f, good) in July - second Maria Magdalena has won three-times since; poor in a Newton Abbot mares' handicap subsequently.
Forecasts
Local Affair (7/4), Highway To Success (7/2), Catch The Cuban (9/2), Pola Chance (11/2), Hummdinger (9/1), Brambledown (14/1), Limelighter (20/1), Night Closure (66/1)
Catch The Cuban (Colin Tizzard) and Brambledown (Gary Moore) haven't achieved a great deal on the Flat, but do make some appeal as the type of candidate capable of doing better over hurdles. The experienced Pola Chance also merits respect on her Stratford third to What Will Be, although any major enthusiasm is tempered by a poor effort at Newton Abbot subsequently. Therefore, in a modest race which makes no real appeal for betting purposes the safest option is probably the Charlie Longsdon-trained filly LOCAL AFFAIR who should theoretically take confidence from a relatively solid introduction to obstacles at Fontwell a fortnight ago.
- Local Affair
- Catch The Cuban
- Brambledown
