Kodiac colt (€75,000 yearling); has shown consistent form, finishing 1¾L third to the winning debutant Dance Fever at Windsor (6f, good to firm) earlier this month; cheekpieces are applied for AW/nursery debut.
Beaten less than 1L (third) in a C&D novice in June, and has posted a number of similar efforts on turf (5f-7f) since; swift turnaround after struggling to make a positive impression in a Class 2 nursery at Doncaster (7f) last week.
Twice placed over 6f in Ireland (Fairyhouse and the Curragh) for Johnny Murtagh; slowly away, also enduring a troubled passage inside the final furlong when finishing in the ruck on debut for Archie Watson at Wolverhampton (6f) a fortnight ago.
Zoffany colt (£80,000 yearling); rather underwhelming until showing much improved form on Tapeta at Wolverhampton (6f) a fortnight ago - was never nearer to the 2L winner Stone Soldier than at the finish; Jack Mitchell back aboard.
Exceed And Excel colt (€46,000 yearling); has raced prominently throughout on each of his last two starts, only weakening close home when third to Melody King at Thirsk (7f, good) latest; AW/nursery debut.
Started 25-1 when third to the useful Huraiz (Mark Johnston) over C&D in August; suffered major tack issues on nursery debut at Wolverhampton (a race which also featured Zingaro Boy and Kocasandra); blinkers now replace cheekpieces.
Possibly flattered by a third-placed finish at Ayr (6f, heavy) last month; bombed out badly on nursery debut at Hamilton subsequently; it's still relatively early days, albeit others hold far more compelling claims.
Tucked in nicely (fourth) behind Najm over C&D on her penultimate start; mugged on the line by a turbo-charged late thrust from Dutch Decoy on nursery debut at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) since; a major player back on the AW despite a 4lb rise.
Wasn't far off the principals on either of her last two starts (Goodwood and Chelmsford (both 6f) respectively) without really threatening as a ready-made future winner; simply interesting to see how she fares on AW/nursery debut.
Seven-race maiden, often placed, as was the case when chasing home fellow co-favourites Singe Anglais and Magic Timing at Carlisle (6f, gd/soft) last week; is due a 1lb rise and competes here (AW debut) before that new mark officially 'kicks-in'.
Forecasts
Zingaro Boy (10/3), Phuket Power (7/2), Danny Ocean (4/1), Kayewhykelly (8/1), Kocasandra (8/1), Robert Guiscard (11/1), Najm (16/1), Pentewan (16/1), Pettinger (25/1), Trevie Fountain (50/1)
A tight looking nursery in which only a couple can be safely discounted. Tom Dascombe isn't a frequent visitor to Gosforth Park (6-34, 18%), so it's notable that the cheek-pieced AW and handicap debutant Phuket Power makes the not insignificant journey over from Cheshire. Zingaro Boy caught the eye with an improved run at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago, finishing in front of both Kocasandra and Najm (tack issues) and he merits a very favourable mention at this more galloping track. However, we'll chance the cheekily-named KAYEWHYKELLY who was denied a debut nursery win by the turbo-charged late thrust of Dutch Decoy at Hamilton Park (6f) three weeks ago.
- Kayewhykelly
- Zingaro Boy
- Phuket Power
