Multiple winner in France but failed to get his head in front since switching to this yard. Well held in his last two starts and latest 6L 10th in 1m Haydock handicap leaves him looking exposed.

Formerly useful handicapper who has proven to be frustrating this season. Took a forward step on latest effort when 3L fifth at Thirsk (6f, good) in August but despite 2lb drop he still looks to be in the handicapper's grip.

Usually excels over this distance, winning Musselburgh handicap two starts before running respectable fourth over 1m at that track. Not penalised for that effort and could go well off current mark.

Rediscovered his form when second at Redcar on penultimate start before bettering that with victory in 7f Thirsk handicap last month. Shortlisted on current form but 4lb rise could be a concern.

Sole win came in a Redcar novice last year and struggling to make an impact this term, including 4L eighth in 7f Haydock handicap latest. May need to drop further in the handicap in time.

Has usually ran his race this season and gained first win this year with commanding success in 7f Catterick handicap in August. More will be required off a 4lb higher mark this time but holds place claims.

Dual winner in novice company but has been well held since. Returned from break with modest ninth in 7f Haydock handicap and entitled to strip fitter for that but a bounce back is required.

Looked to be inconsistent but took advantage off tumbling mark to land extended 7f Chester handicap last Saturday. Quick turnaround but races off 5lb higher this time.

Belatedly got off the mark at Salisbury in July and fared better on second handicap start with good fourth in 6f Newmarket handicap last time. Dropped 1lb in the weights for that so could be on a dangerous mark.

Losing run stretched back to June 2018 and hasn't threatened to land a blow so far this season. Latest sixth in 7f Thirsk handicap suggests she has lost her way.

Doncaster winner in the spring and had largely remained consistent before two below par efforts lately, including 5L last of 11 at Haydock (7f, soft) last time out. Place claims at best if back to form.

Had looked a good handicapper in 2017 but out of sorts since. Offered very little in 7f Thirsk handicap on first start for this yard in August and general form gives little appeal.

Shaped with credit in some valuable handicaps earlier in the season but looked to appreciate the drop in class and application of cheekpieces when winning 7f Musselburgh handicap last month. This is tougher but respected.

Struggled to make an impact this season. Creditable fifth at Musselburgh two starts ago but regressed when ninth of 10 at York (6f, good) last time. Plenty to do despite the step up in trip.

Forecasts

Maggies Angel (6/1), Parys Mountain (13/2), Monsieur Noir (7/1), Glengarry (15/2), Sparklealot (17/2), Markazi (9/1), Queen's Sargent (9/1), King Of Tonga (10/1), Tommy Taylor (11/1), Jackstar (16/1), Right Action (20/1), Starlight Romance (28/1), He'zanarab (50/1), La Rav (50/1)

Verdict

MONSIEUR NOIR has started to suggest he is getting the hang of things recently with his Salisbury success and fared well back in handicap company last time. On paper it looks like he has been given a chance by the handicapper and may still have more progression in him than his rivals. Glengarry looks to be in need of a stiff 7f, which he gets here, and is weighted to run another solid race, while the likes of Maggies Angel and Queen's Sergeant have come into form recently but must improve again off their current marks.
  1. Monsieur Noir
  2. Glengarry
  3. Queen's Sargent
