Back to form off the back of a break when beating three rivals at Chepstow in April; looked vulnerable off higher marks after that. Returns now after an absence having had wind surgery; stable in form but marks still gives him a tough task.

Twice a C&D winner including in this contest last year off a 4lb lower mark; no coincidence that he goes well here (the easy fences suit him); found out in tougher tests. Has won over C&D when fresh; hard to ignore with the yard in good form.

Turned over a new leaf of late finding his form (been a quirky sort in the past) with wins at Uttoxeter/Southwell. May well have completed a hat-trick but for falling last time (typically travelling well at the time); obvious claims off this mark.

Genuine sort who likes to go from the front, already won three times this year over trips of this nature. Twice a C&D winner his last victory came her in July; possibly a little too high in the handicap now, dangerous if left alone up front however.

Often flattered to deceive and took an age to get off the mark over fences finally doing so at Wincanton in April. Failed to follow up that win (rather reverted type), comes here off the back of a struggle at Stratford; visor returns.

Has looked at his best of late especially when winning twice at Stratford over 2m1f (two other good performances in between). Not totally straightforward (can idle at the finish), has a tougher task than of late from 7lb out of the weights.

Forecasts

Adrrastos (11/4), Theo (3/1), Poker School (4/1), Sizing Platinum (5/1), Atlantic Storm (15/2), Utility (8/1)

Verdict

Dr Richard Newland has won this contest for the last two years most recently with Theo (one of his two C&D victories) who returns for another crack at this contest although his jumping can sometimes prove a little less than immaculate. Sizing Platinum arrives on the back of a wind op and has a tough mark to overcome on his return although his yard are in form and that’s a plus point. Adrrastos another one who goes well around here will be dangerous if allowed an easy time on front but it’s UTILITY that gets the overall vote. Going well when falling last time he can bounce back here off a mark that still looks very workable.
