A comfortable winner on debut for his new yard at Catterick nine days ago and is highly respected given that he's still 3lb well in despite his 5lb penalty. The step up in trip is a slight concern as he's only ever been placed over 7f.

No real impression in this grade last time out and he's been struggling to get back to his best this year. This season's turf form leaves a bit to be desired. Back below his last winning mark but others more appealing on recent efforts.

Returned from a break with a solid run here in June and also showed determination to go close despite a troubled passage at Wolverhampton last time out. The cheekpieces (instead of a visor) are in place again and another bold show not ruled out.

Won a Class 4 on Polytrack at Chelmsford in July but just failed under a penalty here shortly after; also held when third of four at Newmarket last time and limitations apparent from this sort of mark. The drop to 7f suits but yet to win on turf.

Looked a more focused individual since being gelded and landed a brace of wins in June. Closely matched with Glengarry from their encounter at Newcastle in July but latest start suggested he's still got more to offer. One to bear in mind.

Stablemate of Glengarry and finished just ahead of that rival when they met at Ayr in July (wore blinkers instead of cheekpieces that day). Held his own in this grade last time out and has solid claims once again. (Yard won this race in 2017.)

C&D winner for another yard a year ago but held his form after the switch; also won at this level at Beverley in July and went close back at this course twice since. Those efforts read well in the context of this race. Good chance off the same mark.

Donnelly's Rainbow8
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-10| J: Rowan Scott(3)| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR:  63| CD
10/1
C&D winner in a Class 5 handicap on his penultimate start but was disappointing in a lower grade last time; possible that was just a blip as he'd previously been progressive and not much to find if he bounces back. The betting can guide.

Forecasts

Six Strings (7/4), How Bizarre (9/2), Glengarry (5/1), Battle Of Waterloo (7/1), Defence Treaty (17/2), Be Kool (10/1), Donnelly's Rainbow (10/1), Howzer Black (18/1)

Verdict

Six Strings is an obvious starting point given his confident start for his new yard when winning a Class 5 last time out. He's due for a rise in the weights so has to be a threat to all under the penalty. However, this is a tougher race and the relevant form between old rivals such as: HOW BIZARRE, Donnelly's Rainbow, Howzer Black and Glengarry creates a deeper conundrum. The first named likes this course and just edges the vote on the grounds of consistency over this sort of trip. Donnelly's Rainbow is closely matched with the selection but needs to bounce back from a poor run last time, so Howzer Black might be the more potent threat on this occasion.
