C&D winner in April and also won at Hamilton in mid-July before going close at Pontefract ten days later. Split a couple of decent types in a higher grade last time and solid claims on that run despite another 1lb to carry. (Cheekpieces back on.)

C&D winner last August but not at his best so far this term; the first-time cheekpieces didn't inspire much of a transformation at Beverley last week but possible the return to this course will instill more confidence. Still worth a betting check.

Busy since winning a C&D seller in July but arguably ran his best race for a while when second at Beverley last Saturday (Excessable held in 8th, Bashiba back in 14th). Due to go up 1lb so a chance at the weights but inconsistent and risk attached.

Usually goes well here and drying ground would be in his favour; only 1lb higher than his last winning mark so reasonable claims at the weights too. This looks tougher than his C&D win from last September so needs everything to go his way.

By Orientor who did so well for this yard but improvement needed from the gelding after a modest handicap debut last time (finished half a length behind Jordans Electrics over C&D). He's unexposed at the trip but needs to raise the bar this time.

Not particularly well treated on these terms and is due for a further 3lb drop in the ratings after a string of poor results. Conditions are likely to suit, as will a strong pace; but form to reverse with Dessert Ace from last time is a concern.

Forecasts

Excessable (3/1), Bashiba (10/3), Desert Ace (7/2), Gamesome (4/1), Super Julius (9/2), Jordan Electrics (6/1), Gleniffer (12/1)

Verdict

SUPER JULIUS is more consistent than most of these and can get back to winning ways now he's dropped down a grade. Desert Ace, like the selection, goes well at this course and will be a big threat if he confirms last weekend's Beverley form with both Excessable and Bashiba, so looks a reasonable option for next best. Gameshow is far from prolific but can certainly go close in this company if he's back on song. The booking of a 3lb claimer is a good move where he's concerned.
  1. Super Julius
  2. Desert Ace
  3. Gamesome
