Chasing debutant who failed to impress when last seen out over hurdles (pulled up) in January. Best watched for now over fences where it's more than likely his future lies in handicaps in this sphere.
Plenty of chase form to his name in the context of this race; looked to excel himself when last seen over fences (had the run of things from the front). May have been flattered by that performance, not far away if he can reproduce it.
Veteran who showed that the fire still burned bright when rolling the clock back to win at Navan over hurdles in February (2m, good/soft). Didn't run too badly when last seen (still over hurdles); now makes a belated chasing debut.
Placed form in some novice events reads better than his sole win which came in a Downpatrick maiden over 2m2f. His chasing form so far is well away from what he showed over hurdles; mainly let down by his jumping; hard to be confident.
Plenty of practice over fences; remains a maiden in this sphere after seven attempts; suffered two falls in last four starts. This doesn't look a particularly strong contest and he shouldn't be written off if he's over his last fence fall last time.
Last three starts over hurdles/fences look particularly poor, failed to beat a horse home in his last two completed starts. Well held over C&D last time (chase debut); not one to be adding to the shortlist.
His three chase starts have all come around here (fell on debut, had jumping issues over hurdles also). Last two chasing attempts have shown mild promise (best run over this trip); still beaten a fair way last time; would need to improve to figure.
Stable/chase debut returning from an absence (lightly-raced sort) who had looked to be progressing slowly over hurdles. Likely to need this but interesting to see what he can do with a view to handicaps in the future in this sphere.
0-7 over fences (previously useful hurdler) who may have needed the run on his debut for this yard but still looked below his best. Entitled to come on for that run but does have to turn around Downpatrick form with Knock On Steel.
Made dramatic strides over hurdles for this yard last year (recorded a hurdles four-timer); failed to win since although she was placed in a Grade 3 hurdle. Ought to have done better over fences, may still do so; best chase run when second over C&D.
Forecasts
Knock On Steel (4/1), Make My Heart Fly (9/2), Stoneford (9/2), Wonderoftheworld (5/1), Oscars Den (7/1), Tourboy (8/1), Paris Texas (12/1), Treacysenniscorthy (16/1), It's Only A Number (20/1), The Broom Squire (100/1)
One or two of these that are likely to be at the head of the market have not quite fulfilled their potential over the larger obstacles and despite their good hurdles form doubts remain about Make My Heart Fly and Wonderoftheworld in this sphere. Stoneford is another who has had plenty of chances and his jumping might not be that sound either, he fell last time and lay winded for quite some time. Oscars Den is coming late to fences but and this veteran is an interesting recruit but the overall vote goes to KNOCK ON STEEL who won’t be far away if he can reproduce his Downpatrick effort.
- Knock On Steel
- Oscars Den
- Make My Heart Fly
