Won two handicaps (1m and 7f) in August before respectable sixth in valuable York contest latest. Certainly arrives in good form but must give weight away all round including to rivals rated 6lb and 4lb superior.
Three Group One wins in the back catalogue of this hugely popular 16-time winner who has earned almost £2m in prizemoney. Now gone 30 races without success but placed three-times at Group level this season and has a real chance here.
Only won once for Kevin Prendergast (16 starts) but was an emphatic winner in lone start for this yard in a Chelmsford AW handicap over this trip off a mark of 99. Returns after 345-days off but sort who may be best fresh; intriguing contender.
Wins at Musselburgh and at Thirsk in latest start this season have probably seen him handicapped to the hilt now off a mark of 99 (0-5 when rated 100 plus). Would receive 7lb from Gordon Lord Byron in a handicap.
Dual winner in France won a Thirsk conditions race on UK debut before finding the Stewards Cup and Wokingham handicaps and two Listed races too hot to handle. Second top rated however and this race offers best chance since aforementioned win.
Twice Listed placed at two but has found Pattern level contests too hot in three starts in 2019 including 8L 11th of 18 in Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot latest. This his easiest assignment of the season but still more needed.
Forecasts
Qaysar (5/2), Gordon Lord Byron (3/1), Vanbrugh (9/2), Dubai Dominion (5/1), Mizaah (6/1), Three Saints Bay (15/2)
Although he is now a shadow of his former self at the age of 11 this offers GORDON LORD BYRON a fine opportunity to end his losing streak amassed over the last couple of years given he is the top rated performer after making the frame three times in Group races back home in Ireland. He won the Group One Sprint Cup here over 6f in 2013 having been second in it the year before so the course clearly suits. Vanbrugh has been a little frustrating since winning at Thirsk but this offers him a genuine opportunity given he's only rated 2lb inferior to his seven years older rival. Mizaah is the dark-horse of the piece.
- Gordon Lord Byron
- Vanbrugh
- Mizaah
