Joined this yard for £25,000 after two British pointing wins earlier this year. Gamely denied Present Chief by a short head on stable debut over C&D (good to soft) five weeks ago. Concedes a further 4lb today but is clearly progressive.

Showed a modicum of ability in three Point-to-Point Flat Races during the Spring but was still well-beaten each time. More on his plate under rules here and likely to prove better over further.

Finished last and tailed off in his two bumpers to date at Wincanton (good) and Newton Abbot (good). Difficult to imagine anything other than a similar outcome in this contest.

Clear of the third when touched off by a previous winner at Market Rasen (2m½f, good) 28 days ago. Dam was a dual-bumper scorer for this yard who are amongst the winners and so should be given strong consideration here.

Improved on a creditable debut when narrowly beaten by Dalkingstown here (2m, good to soft) on 30 July. Re-opposes in receipt of a further 4lb but had every chance to go by the winner and no certainty to reverse the form.

A fair start to finish sixth, beaten 5L, on debut at Wincanton (1m7½f, good) back in January. That wasn't the strongest of bumpers for the track and he will need to build on that effort notably to trouble the market principals.

Has joined the Keighley team after getting off the mark at the sixth attempt in the Irish pointing field. From the family of Viking Flagship and Flagship Uberalles so may well come into his own over fences further down the line.

Forecasts

Present Chief (7/4), Bucko's Boy (3/1), Dalkingstown (3/1), Witness Protection (6/1), Stimulating Song (12/1), Breffniboy (20/1), Alpine Rock (28/1), Bonne Nuit (66/1)

Verdict

An interesting little contest where BUCKO'S BOY is the pick to build on his promising debut. Beaten ½L by a previous winner, they were clear of the third. Dalkingstown touched off Present Chief here 33 days ago and despite conceding another 4lb today, has a good chance of confirming the form as the runner-up had every chance to go by.
