Losing sequence is mounting up but the gelding is on a highly competitive mark in comparison to the pick of his form. He ran well when third of 11 on his AW debut here earlier in the month and is capable of at least making the frame again.
Held his form with three wins prior to a heavy ground defeat at Haydock last time out. Possible the busy spell has caught up with him but the return to this course is a positive move. Needs to be near his best though.
Three-time winner over C&D (including from a 3lb lower mark in this race last year) and has to be respected given his recent win in an amateur riders race on turf too. Rated a better horse on the AW, the gelding has to enter calculations.
Convincing winner in a lower grade at Doncaster latest and respected despite the 5lb higher mark (has won from higher in the past). Tapeta debut but was second on the Polytrack at Newcastle on his only previous AW run; place claims if he adapts.
Well held behind Delph Crescent at Doncaster earlier in the month so has a bit to find if they both run to the same level. However, he's got valuable C&D experience (won here last December) so could feasibly reverse the form. The betting can guide.
Well over two years since his last win and not shown much in six starts this year. Missed the whole of the previous campaign so looks a long shot to bounce back to his best. (Class 2 winner back in the day but that's a distant memory now.)
Less exposed than most and decent claims if he can build on what was a good effort here last time out (edged ahead of Dragons Tail close home). The longer trip will suit and very possible he can gain a first handicap success.
Comes here after a couple of good efforts at Lingfield and Newcastle respectively. Due for a 4lb rise for future handicaps so solid claims on these terms. The visor might provide the extra push required.
Forecasts
Cape Victory (5/2), Scheme (5/2), Dragons Tail (9/2), Delph Crescent (5/1), Scofflaw (8/1), The Throstles (8/1), Kaser (11/1), Cohesion (20/1)
A tough one to call as Scheme has obvious claims given that she's 4lb well in and comes here after a couple of solid performances at Lingfield and Newcastle. Her previous run at this course wasn't so impressive even though the shorter trip might have been a good excuse. However, it still might be worth taking a chance on the equally unexposed CAPE VICTORY taking a further step forward. The Dawn Approach colt represents better value and, given that he was just ahead of Dragons Tail last time, he is taken to improve now his stamina is put under the spotlight. The Throstles and Delph Crescent are others with solid place claims.
