Enters the fray on a long losing run having run no sort of race at Thirsk over 6f on quick ground last time reverting to handicaps. Now makes his first start for this yard having left David Evans; market support should be noted for a shrewd yard.
Both wins from a limited number of starts have come on the AW (Tapeta/Polytrack) with his turf form being below that level. Faced a stiff task in a minor event last time (on turf); first handicap try on turf, jury remains out on his chance.
Twice a winner this year off a very similar mark (4lb above last wining mark now); both victories coming at Ripon (goes well there). Not quite hit the same level of form since his last win, including at Ripon, one to watch rather than support.
10lb above his last winning mark his recent starts would suggest that the handicapper has now nailed him although he's not an easy character to predict. Ran one of his lesser races last time at Thirsk, would need to bounce back, others appeal more.
Recorded one poor run since his Hamilton 5f win in June with his two other starts proving he's still in good heart/form. Shed his usual headgear combination last time which led to a sound display on heavy ground over 5f, definite player in this.
Needs to match his yard's recent upturn in form having run poorly the last twice (supported on first occasion). Seen to maximum effect when getting off the mark over 7f at Wetherby (second start); first try at 5f with cheekpieces used first-time.
Now back with his original yard a runner-up slot on his first start has seen him score twice since over 5f having made a late start to his 3yo career. Improved last time having won a selling handicap the time before; leading player under a penalty.
Yet to find his feet this year although he did run quite an interesting race on his seasonal debut on good ground; his best form has come in more testing conditions. Not really had his conditions as yet (below-par last time); looks vulnerable though.
Makes a quick return to action with his latest start producing another lack-lustre effort when making the running at Pontefract (6f, good). Did too much too soon on the occasion (not for the first time); faces pace pressure once again, looks exposed.
Forecasts
Music Society (15/8), Stoney Lane (4/1), Four Wheel Drive (6/1), Militia (7/1), Manshood (8/1), Heath Charnock (11/1), Gracious John (12/1), Bossipop (14/1), Adam's Ale (50/1)
The two trainers who have won this race before Michael Dods and Paul Midgley both have runners in the race but the prize may go elsewhere this year with both Heath Charnock and Manshood looking to have stiff tasks. Four Wheel Drive has returned to the David Brown yard after a brief sojourn way and now bids for a hat-trick under a penalty; looks the pick of the two 3yo’s and should go close. Of the duo that Tim Easterby runs MUSIC SOCIETY is the pick having shown last time that he can handle a soft surface, his second at Thirsk looking even better in hindsight having looked to race in the wrong group; he can make amends here. Gracious John one to note if support comes for him.
