Lightly-raced in recent times with his best form of late coming on soft surfaces. Good effort when not getting a clear run at Chester in June but very disappointing last time out at same track. Chance on best of form and more rain will help

Looked progressive last season with best effort arguably coming in defeat at Salisbury on final start. Might just need this pipe-opener but may run a fair race from close to the front from a decent draw.

Did not seem to act at Chester last time out but had previously been running some fair races mainly over this course and distance. Handles an easy surface and certainly one to consider.

Was rewarded for some consistent efforts when scoring over 1m3f at Windsor last time out. Certainly good enough to win this but any softening of the ground may be a worry for connections.

Has been wonderfully consistent this season specifically at this distance including at this track. Slight suspicion he may be too high in the weights but will certainly give a good account of himself based on past performances.

Talented bumper performer who won twice at Chepstow in 2017. Looked to need the outing on her return from a lengthy absence at Lingfield in June and improved last time out over this trip at Newbury last month. Certainly one to consider.

In and out performer who would rate a decent chance on the best of his AW form but one takes a chance on whether he will put his best foot forward on any particular day.

Took five attempts to get off the mark for John Gosden, who then sold him after success on the AW last November. Well held in three Flat and two NH runs for this trainer. Visor tried for the first time but others preferred.

Looks the clear form pick based on her efforts at Bath this season with best effort coming in defeat last time out. Negatives include a poor draw and being unproven on a soft surface. Steps up in trip here and cheekpieces applied for the first time

Is a five-time C&D here. Has had a couple of modest runs so far this season at this track but needs to bounce back from finishing eighth of 15 last time over this distance. Is now 4lb lower than last winning mark but recent form a worry.

Fairly consistent when he races (declared a non.runner on last four occasions). Will appreciate any softening of the ground and may be of interest if any support in the market..

Tailed off in three bumper starts and not much better since she's been campaigned on the Flat until showing some promise on latest two starts. Needs to build on that here to get competitive.

Maybe a tough ask given his inside draw and making his handicap debut but has shown he copes with a soft surface, is open to improvement. Needs to, however, to play a starring role in this contest.

Kingfast (4/1), Foresee (9/2), Doune Castle (9/2), Ascot Day (6/1), Harmonise (7/1), Nabhan (8/1), Tobouggaloo (9/1), Perfect Grace (9/1), War Eagle (12/1), Marengo (18/1), Zillion (20/1), Enmeshing (28/1), General Brook (33/1), Puzzle Cache (40/1)

Verdict

Much will depend on whether PERFECT GRACE handles the expected softer surface and copes with this step up in trip. If she does then her recent form at Bath should be enough to land this contest. Kingfast is a consistent sort who certainly deserves to win another race. There are some doubts about his current mark but will certainly run his race and likely to be in the shake up and the first-time visor may give him an extra spark. Doune Castle is slowly learning about the game and while this looks tough, he certainly has room for improvement and connections will want to see him winning sooner rather than later.
