Given a chance by the handicapper since returning to Rules this three-time point-to-point winner has acquitted himself well over fences/hurdles. Found out by the trip (3m2f) here last time over hurdles; respected back over shorter and fences.
Like many new recruits to this yard he stepped forward markedly to record a win and a second in his first tow starts for them; both over hurdles. More lightly raced over fences, should be effective off this sort of mark in this low-grade affair.
Not one that finds consistent or winning form easy with her latest efforts all well below-par, even when tried in headgear. Now with a new yard (10% strike-rate with stable switchers); won't be a surprise to see some support/improved performance.
Yet to win under Rules (0-17) but has flirted with breaking his maiden on a few occasions most recently when unseating at the last (Stratford, 2m4f). Appeared revived by the blinkers on that occasion; ought to get involved on the basis of last start.
Still to win over obstacles most of his hurdles form is modest; started off in a better fashion over fences (showed promise despite failing to complete). Form in this sphere has gone downhill since wind surgery though; something to prove.
Point-to-point winner who shaped better than the distance he was beaten last time at Stratford over 2m4f (may have needed the run on stable debut). Jumped soundly in the main; ought to be able to make an impact off a lowly mark.
Returned from a long break in May but was beaten a long way and that scenario has remained the same in two subsequent starts. 8lb out of the weights and continues to show very little; hard to recommend.
Once again well out of the weights as he has been for most of his recent starts it's hard to muster any enthusiasm for his chance even in this low-grade affair. First-time blinkers worn last time are retained but all that is likely to be to no avail.
Forecasts
Black Anthem (6/5), Skinflint (9/4), Auld Sod (7/1), Golander (8/1), Barton Rose (9/1), The Major (12/1), Thats Yer Man (50/1), Monty Massini (66/1)
Like many who arrive at the Dr Richard Newland yard a step forward is never far away and BLACK ANTHEM has already made his with a win and a second to his name over hurdles he now reverts to fences seemingly on the up. Skinflint is likely to appreciate the drop in trip and a return to fences after a 3m plus trip here last time proved beyond him with Auld Sod capable of getting involved if he can reproduce his form away from Stratford. Barton Rose will be interesting if there is any money for her on her stable debut while Golander showed signs that he could win over fences last time.
- Black Anthem
- Golander
- Skinflint
