Lone win remains a 6f two-year-old score at Nottingham but placed for the third time this season latest when narrowly second best over 1m1f at Hamilton. Didn't stay 1m3f, did stay 1m1f so trip in between a 50/50, chances clear if he lasts.

Arrives bidding for a hat-trick after back-to-back wins in novice company. Handicapper may have let him in lightly with this opening mark and respected in first-time cheekpieces for yard always feared in the North.

Bounced back from disappointing Sandown effort two starts ago to finish 4L third in 1m Doncaster handicap in June. 1lb better off for that run in an easier contest but still needs to prove he stays 1m2f.

Won three times from 1m-1m2f this season including Newmarket win over this trip two starts back. Third there off this mark last time and have to wonder if handicapper has now caught up although thought that in the past and been wrong.

May have not lasted 1m6f latest having showed improved form upped to 1m4f when a 1L fourth in a blanket finish at York. Goes the other way in trip now but form over the distance less than inspiring.

Five-race maiden but could argue he's well in here now 5lb better off than when beaten 2½L in a novice race by re-opposing Country at Ripon. Should get a great deal closer but less exposed rival may have more to come.

Ran two frankly woeful races at Ripon in the spring finishing last each time. Hopefully cause discovered hence three months off since but probably best watched.

Forecasts

Country (6/4), Emirates Knight (7/2), Cardano (4/1), Loch Ness Monster (6/1), Billy No Mates (12/1), Noble Prospector (16/1), Off Piste (50/1)

Verdict

William Haggas' enviable strike-rate owes plenty to his fine placement of his runners and he looks to have found a nice opportunity for COUNTRY to bolster his already excellent record here. This trip is the nagging doubt which sees Loch Ness Monster considered second best rather than as the selection but he did stay 1m1f latest. Noble Prospector is weighted to push the selection close after being 2½L behind latest when 5lb worse off than today.
