Took big step forward from debut when just pipped at Yarmouth on soft ground over this trip before rallying for success latest at Chester on good to firm. Looks like he will appreciate an extra 1f now but vulnerable under 6lb penalty.
160,000 guineas yearling son of Sir Prancealot found things happening too quickly when a 10L sixth of seven on debut at Newcastle. Experience and an extra 1f here help but best watched again.
Debut fourth to a previous winner bolstered when runner-up hacked up last week. This colt was fourth next at Newbury but that race looked pretty strong and he should prove a live contender now.
Well beaten tenth of 11 in a 6f novice race at Yarmouth (good-to-firm) on debut and although improving slightly to be fifth of nine next at Nottingham he looks more one for nurseries after today.
Newcomer by super-sire Dubawi is a half-brother to winners Inspiriter (6f inc 2yo/French Listed)Bouquet De Flores (5.5f), Efflorescence (7f 2yo) and Moving Forward (1m4f). From arguably best yard in the business with newcomers so highly respected.
Changed stables after twice finishing fourth for Richard Fahey (6f and 7f). Will need to do more here having been comfortably held in both of them.
200,000gns breeze up buy finished fourth and fifth in two starts to date but only beaten 1¼L and 1½L respectively. Should be ready to go even closer now in his third start and belongs on any shortlist.
£50,000 yearling by Harbour Watch is a half-brother to winners Bletchley (Group-placed 5f-8.5f inc 2yo/USA), Elegant Annie (1m) and Villa Maria (7f). Likable pedigree but yard's newcomers often need the run.
Beaten 15L into 12th of 13 on debut at Windsor so at this stage the son of Hot Streak is best watched.
Finished last of eight beaten 17½L in C&D debut just over a month ago and such an effort puts him firmly on the 'best watched' list.
By Zoffany out of a winning half-sister to smart winner up to 1m Simply Perfect. Well beaten 10th of 12 on debut at Newbury in May but stable much hotter with two-year-olds now than then and he could be a big improver.
Forecasts
Lazuli (11/10), Skontonovski (7/2), Hello Baileys (5/1), Ziggle Pops (15/2), Qaaddim (10/1), Lincoln Blue (14/1), Mellad (25/1), Aysar (33/1), Winning Streak (66/1), Just Norman (66/1), Wizardry (66/1)
It is rarely a bad decision to side with a Charlie Appleby trained newcomer and his LAZULI hasn't been found the hottest of HQ maidens here so gets the vote on debut. Both Hello Baileys and Qaaddim have shown enough in two starts to suggest involvement here for their respective top yards so they should provide the sternest opposition from those to have run.
- Lazuli
- Hello Baileys
- Qaaddim
