AW winner in the past on the Flat for Simon Dow he's yet to score on the level for current connections (has won over hurdles). Not seen on the Flat since earlier in the year (fell at halfway); shaped well over hurdles since then; mark looks tough.

Veteran who has developed a terrific partnership with today's rider over the year's (10-24) although he was a little bit disappointing in the race named after him last time. On a good mark (last win off 76); can't be discounted in an event like this.

Useful over hurdles when he was with Dan Skelton; lost his way a little of late for this yard; ran creditably on his first start after a wind op last time. This trip looks a little on the short side this time; jockey booking is an eye-catching one.

Approaching the veteran stage; looks rejuvenated of late winning two of his last three races over similar trips to this. Best effort of the season last time taking advantage of a weak contest; more to do but hard to rule out given his recent form.

Plenty on his side here having won twice this year already over shorter trips but always looking as though he'll be suited by a test such as this. Turned in one of his best efforts last time; has won round here, looks to have a leading chance.

Took a small step back in the right direction last time over 1m6f at Ayr but really needs a softer surface that this to operate on (one win came in testing conditions). Appears to stay this far but others look stronger stayers and appeal more.

Course winner who usually likes to get out and make the pace (ideal tactics around here) however, his last win came back in May 2017. Can't be discounted in this grade especially with a decent rider on board; cheekpieces replace blinkers.

Finished second under this rider in this contest last year maintaining the good record the pair have together. Dropped markedly in the handicap since then and well below last winning mark; threatening to come good soon; one to note.

Well out of the weights and really doesn't look one to be that interested in having shown very little in all his starts this year. The saving grace is that his one career win came here but that was over hurdles; makes very limited appeal.

Forecasts

Native Fighter (2/1), Be Perfect (4/1), Wynford (4/1), Tapis Libre (7/1), Thorntoun Care (9/1), Duke Of Yorkshire (10/1), Corton Lad (11/1), Lyford (12/1), Sarvi (16/1), Dizoard (50/1)

Verdict

Several of these have legitimate claims with Native Fighter and Be Perfect looking suitable types for this sort of contest but neither are bombproof and it may be best to look for some value in a race like this. THORNTOUN CARE did well to win last time at Beverley over a trip that looked on the short side under Amy Collier who gets on well with him having ridden him on his last five starts; this extra distance could well see him to better effect. Jo Mason and Emily Easterby are more than capable riders their partnerships with Tapis Libre and Duke Of Yorkshire have proved successful in the past. Simon Walker is an eye-catching booking for Wynford that pair should be watched in the market.
