Dwelt on debut but made a promising start nonetheless (York, 6f, good to firm) when 4L third. Failed to build on that on AW last time, but still open to improvement and not written off here.

£5,000 yearling, £15,000 2yo. Half-brother to Italian 7f/1m winner Sconvolgente, out of an unraced half-sister to useful 6f/7f winner Colepeper. Stable's juveniles 3-65 over last five seasons. Watch on debut.

Bookmakers took few chances with him on debut, when 7-2, but running green and beaten over 15L at York in June. Should come on a fair bit for that experience and has not been rushed back. Better anticipated.

14-1 and made an encouraging debut at Chepstow last month, when 3¾L third (6f, good to firm). Should build on that and win races, but today might be just a bit too tough.

16-1 and was keen enough on debut, when still running well to be 2½L third in a Pontefract (6f, good) novice event. No surprise to see him take a marked step up on that here and pick up more prize money.

Forecasts

Plymouth Rock (11/10), Spiritofthenorth (4/1), Bryn Du (5/1), Jump The Gun (11/2), Sir Boris (9/1), Live In The Moment (66/1)

Verdict

Spiritofthenorth showed enough at Pontefract to suggest that he could be a big player here, while Sir Boris is another with one run under his belt who should improve and take a hand. PLYMOUTH ROCK may also have plenty more in him than he let on on his York debut, and he is the tentative suggestion this time. Jump The Gun is not written off, while Bryn Du should make a bold bid on debut.
  1. Plymouth Rock

  3. Bryn Du
