Takes on her elders for the first time having made all over C&D earlier in the week to defeat three rivals of the same age. Disappointing the time before she looked a different filly in first-time blinkers; leading chance if headgear works again.
Below form for most of the year until perking up last time to run fourth at Haydock (5f, good); no guarantee that he'll be in the same form this time around. Has won over C&D and races off a lower mark than either of his handicap wins.
Bidding to end a frustrating run of seconds having filled that spot on the last three occasions (beaten odds-on favourite last time). Admittedly beaten by a thriving sort last time her attitude in a finish did look a little weak; well handicapped.
Flattered that he may be coming back to form a few runs ago when just behind Edged Out at Bath and ran well subsequently at Chepstow. Rather easy to back last time at Thirsk his rider lost his irons at the start; well weighted on his old form.
The cocktail of a reduced mark and drop in grade allowed her to fulfil some earlier promise when taking a minor 5f event at Bath (penultimate start). Failed to follow up that run though (well below-par last time back in handicaps); stiff task again.
Modest form overall for Roger Charlton (sold to for £3,500 guineas); makes her stable debut with sprinting looking to be her calling (had limited chances at sprint trips so far). Ran with credit over 6f last time; interesting sort now tried over 5f.
Yet to beat a rival in four starts for this yard having previously been with David Evans where she showed very little also. Very difficult to construct a cogent case for her on the evidence presented so far; blinkers now tried for the first-time.
Faced 38 rivals in her four starts for this yard and has failed to beat any of them despite a couple of breaks and a wind op. Cheekpieces return (ran one of her better races for Robert Cowell in them) but hard to see her featuring.
Forecasts
Perfect Charm (6/5), Edged Out (7/2), Spot Lite (5/1), Brandy Station (6/1), Toolatetodelegate (12/1), Chop Chop (12/1), Not So Shy (66/1), Spring Holly (66/1)
There’s a chance that the blinkers will work as well again for Perfect Charm and it will be a case of déjà vu as she bids to repeat her C&D win earlier in the week. However, she now takes in older horses for the first time and there’s no guarantee that the headgear will work as well again. Edged Out is undeniably well handicapped but may not have the same will to win as she used to while Spot Lite is capable of bouncing back from a below-par run last time. Brandy Station is another who ran well enough to be considered but a chance is taken with CHOP CHOP. She could have more to offer a sprint trips and may prove a bargain for the Brian Barr yard for whom she makes her debut.
- Chop Chop
- Perfect Charm
- Edged Out
