Won four of his last five starts and gone up 13lb in the weights as a result; has a 5lb penalty to carry but this C&D is his playground. Has to merit serious consideration once more. (The rider does her bit with her 5lb claim.)

Dropped in the ratings after several modest efforts; but he's now 9lb below his last winning mark and dangerous to ignore at the weights. However, he was poor the last time he raced at this course and the stiff finish might not be to his liking.

Wears a tongue tie for the first time after a poor run at Bath earlier this month; dropped to a winning mark though and still unexposed as she's never been tried at the minimum trip before; the betting can guide.

Set to race from a mark 10lb below that of her last handicap win; but that was on the AW at Newcastle last January and the mare's form on turf has been poor in both starts this season. Has something to prove at present.

Struggling in Class 4 handicaps this season so far and more to prove as he's not raced over 5f since his racecourse debut - over C&D - in April 2017. Worth a betting check as the ease in grade might prompt a return to form.

Been well backed on several occasions lately and has gone down fighting the last twice. The fitting of cheekpieces can give the filly a boost in terms of concentration and the rider's 5lb claims helps at the weights. Worth consideration once more.

Goes well at this course and could be a player if the return to the Westwood revives his interest. Recent form has been below his best but dangerously well handicapped as a result. Could be good value from a handy draw.

Penultimate start hinted at a return to form and he would have sound claims if it could be guaranteed he can better his latest outing, in which he was slow to start and never landed a blow. He's a dual C&D winner and well drawn, so has no excuses.

Likes this course and was unlucky to meet trouble when sixth behind Ginger Jam over C&D last time out. 7lb better off at the weights this time and better drawn but would still need a good effort to turnaround the placing with such an in-form rival.

Forecasts

Ginger Jam (5/4), Restless Rose (11/2), Qaaraat (13/2), Burtonwood (8/1), Debawtry (9/1), Arnold (12/1), Buccaneers Vault (12/1), Billy Dylan (22/1), Packington Lane (25/1), Rosina (40/1)

Verdict

This might not be straightforward for Ginger Jam in his bid to land his four-timer as a good handful of these are capable of spoiling the party for the top weight; not least Burtonwood, who has a pull at the weights this time and will be a threat to all if he stays out of trouble. As will Arnold, who is already a dual C&D winner and is much better than he consented to show last time out. However, the search for value leads to QAARAAT, who is yet another suited by the stiff finish at Beverley and he is taken to relish this ease in grade from last time at York.
