Summer is his time of year (scored a hat-trick in 2018); came to life this year in June taking advantage of a slipping mark to win over 2m (Newton Abbot). Stiffer task last time up in grade (shaped better than fourth); type to bounce back.

Made a winning start over hurdles for this yard (caused a surprise having left Dan Skelton); subsequent efforts have been fairly tame over both sets of obstacles. Hard to know what to expect here having seemingly lost his way of late.

Having to battle hard to stave off the advancing years now with this four-time course winner having to recover from a pulled-up effort here last time. That did come in a better grade but he does have something to prove especially at 2m.

A first wind surgery saw him twice successful last summer once over C&D but another surgery doesn't appear to have produced the same magic. Fell at the last over C&D when last seen over fences (poor on Flat since); not out of this though.

A Ffos Las chase winner for Nick Williams over 2m4f he showed his best form since when well supported over C&D on Saturday. Capitalised on a drop in the weights plus a collapsing pace to score; 7lb penalty/rise in grade to cope with here.

Forecasts

Jeu De Mots (6/4), My Renaissance (9/4), Alderbrook Lad (4/1), Ink Master (5/1), Ardera Cross (11/1)

Verdict

Not an easy contest to work out with Saturday’s winner Jeu De Mots having to not only back up his victory quickly, which he was well supported for but having to do so under a 7lb penalty in a better grade. He’ll also do well to get a similar race scenario where the pace collapsed and INK MASTER (best at this time of year) may be able to bounce back to his Newton Abbot form around a course that should suit him well if he can get free on the lead. Alderbrook Lad is a legend here but he looks to be on the wane these days and it’s My Renaissance who looks the other major danger. He was shaping up well when falling at the last over C&D when last seen over fences and generally runs well here.
  1. Ink Master
  2. My Renaissance
  3. Jeu De Mots
