Nine-race maiden; 1lb lower than when finishing 7½L fourth to Spiorad in a 1m Class 5 maiden handicap here (good) last month; realistic contender in an equally moderate contest.

4lb lower than when scoring over 1m2f at Pontefract (good to firm) last August; often breaks slowly and finishes off well from the rear; shouldn't be discounted despite tackling a marginally shorter trip.

Generally solid on the AW (three wins at Wolverhampton); hasn't quite hit his stride in 2019, albeit was beaten just 2½L (fourth) by the subsequent dual scorer Dutch Coed at Beverley (1m2f) on his penultimate start; 2lb lower.

Won a pair of French claimers (6f-7f) last September; poor in his first couple of starts for this trainer before offering some hope for the future at Catterick (7f) latest; continues to ease in the weights.

Evidently in no stable star, but equally she isn't pitched in at all deep on handicap debut either; 33-1 when eighth of 11 to Fabulist in a 1m fillies' novice contest at Newmarket 23 days ago; market helpful; chance.

Still seeking that elusive first success since enjoying a purple patch in the summer of 2017 (three wins over 1m-1m1f); well beaten fourth of 13 on the Tapeta at Newcastle (1m) last month; ideally requires plenty of rain.

11-race maiden; in absolute free-fall in the weights since April (has fallen 28lb); his positive 3yo form for Hugo Palmer seems an absolute light year away now; totally unconsidered.

Without a 'win' since being awarded a Catterick maiden in May 2013 (then with Tim Easterby); her best recent form has come with ample cut underfoot; a major surprise if she's the solution on quick ground.

35-race maiden who has already had four previous attempts at breaking the duck at this track (7f-1m2f) in 2019; no reason whatsoever to anticipate that he'll make it 36th-time lucky.

Lightly raced (0-5); never able to challenge when eighth of 13 (beaten approximately 4L) to Blackstone Cliff at Hamilton (1m½f, good) just under three weeks ago; 3lb lower.

Forecast

First Dance (9/4), Mina Vagante (5/1), Farhh Away (5/1), Eldelbar (15/2), Whatwouldyouknow (8/1), Donnago (11/1), Im Dapper Too (14/1), Intense Pleasure (16/1), Tom's Anna (25/1), Lord Rob (40/1)

Verdict

A divided Class 6 handicap which won't take a great deal of winning, so the handicap debutante MINA VAGANTE must enter the reckoning. She hails from a much respected Newmarket yard and although evidently short of a gear change will surely find this company easier than the Newmarket fillies' novice contest which she lined up in just over three weeks ago. Those towards the top-end of the weights, including Farhh Away, First Dance and Whatwouldyouknow are the only other viable alternatives.
  1. Mina Vagante
  2. First Dance
  3. Farhh Away
