Dual winner over 2m at the end of 2018 but enters the unknown here and appears to be paying the price in handicapping terms for those wide-margin wins last year. Ran respectably last time; not hard to have trip/ground doubts.
Less exposed than most of these (this will only be her sixth start) but looks as though she's failing to progress having disappointed in both handicaps so far. Eased 3lb from her last run; bred to stay well, needs this extreme distance to show more.
Failed to win on the Flat for almost two years (has been successful over hurdles in the interim); showed just modest form last time when finishing midfield at Chepstow (2m). Ought to handle this trip and well weighted on his old Flat form.
Course winner in June over 2m in relatively testing conditions (showed a better attitude than the runner-up); made all on that occasion. Not assured to get a soft lead this time; ran creditably on the AW last time; should go well enough.
Unreliable individual (refused to race on a few occasions over hurdles including last two starts); can also be slow away on Flat. Out of sorts in both his Flat outings this year (never dangerous); stays this trip, risky but well handicapped.
Fair if irresolute Flat maiden (0-31) who has won over won over hurdles (in the dim/distant past); capable of the odd good performance on the Flat but has offered little of late. Well beaten last time, would need to find/produce more to get involved.
Three-time course winner with a good strike-rate overall on the Flat (8-67) for one of his calibre; good performance dropped in grade over 2m here last time. Back up in grade now though (never won consecutive races); penalty makes life difficult.
In modest form over obstacles of late but ran creditably over a shorter trip here last time back in Flat action (nearly stole the race from the front). Won't find this as easy in front (faces pace pressure); runs from 3lb out of the weights.
Forecasts
Fitzwilly (9/4), Atomic Jack (3/1), Early Summer (4/1), Graceful Lady (6/1), Wind Place And Sho (7/1), Arty Campbell (16/1), Templier (20/1), Ardamir (33/1)
A new race for the track and the fourth longest Flat race in Britain only contests at Royal Ascot, Pontefract and Goodwood outstripping it in the distance stakes. The one that comes into this in the best form is three-time course winner Fitzwilly although this will be a new test for him he should find this stamina test to his liking. ATOMIC JACK is another that has won over 2m here although conditions would have been slower when he gained his victory if he can gain the lead he may well be hard to pass. No doubting that Wind Place And Sho is well handicapped but it will be a question of what mood he’s in while Graceful Lady and Early Summer can both be given a chance.
- Atomic Jack
- Fitzwilly
- Early Summer
