Useful sort on the Flat (rated 83) and justified good support on his handicap debut over timber off what looked to be a decent mark. An 11lb rise may well have found him out when favourite for a Newton Abbot handicap; has an experience edge here.

Three-time Flat winner at up to 1m4f but makes his hurdles debut for a top-flight yard on the back of a rare poor effort on the level. Has to be of obvious interest having a similar rating to Panko on the Flat, just lacks his hurdles experience.

Dual Flat winner but hardly at the level of the other former Flat performers in this and not seen for quite some while now on the level. Has had one previous try over hurdles for his former yard; now makes his stable debut (cost £3,000).

Made a very belated Rules debut over hurdles at Worcester in May (wore headgear; retained) but showed very little. Held up left well behind in the home straight, likely to be a similar story in this contest.

Given a considerate introduction in a Kelso bumper; fared better last time at Hexham although may have been flattered by the run of the race in another bumper. Now makes her hurdles debut; still plenty to prove.

Verdict

Not a contest that holds much depth beyond the main players unless Amangiri takes to this discipline although his failure to enter the stalls on his last two starts hardly gives you a confident feeling about his attitude. The weight that ILLUSTRISSIME receives on his hurdling debut from Panko just tips the scales in his direction especially as he comes from a yard that do well with their summer jumpers here and he was rated almost the same as his main rival on the Flat. Sweet Flora would be a surprise winner but it won’t be a shock to see her step forward again on her hurdles debut having shown some ability in a bumper last time.
