2lb lower than when scoring by 4L at Pontefract (1m2f, good to firm) last July; stayed on strongly after meeting trouble in the run (fourth) when bidding to double up in that same contest just seven days ago; of interest under Becky Smith.
2lb higher than when winning by ½L for today's rider on soft ground at Haydock (1m3½f) in June; consistent since, including when finishing just in front of today's rival Quoteline Direct at Pontefract 15 days ago.
3lb below his last winning mark (Nottingham, July 2018); has won three-times over C&D (also producing a string of solid efforts at this track); not at his most productive of late but should never be written off at his beloved Beverley.
Went close to landing a touch when beaten 2½L by Poet's Pride at Wolverhampton (7f) in June; has clearly drawn benefit from wind surgery and can be excused a more modest run latest (Tapeta was riding slow); debut for Mick Easterby.
8lb below his last winning mark (Pontefract, August 2018); certainly has the ability to win more races (was a runner-up over an extended mile on this very card in 2017) but his more recent form is uninspiring.
Hasn't won anywhere since May 2016 and a record of 1-35 speaks volumes; has appeared very laboured in three starts in 2019 and can't be considered as a realistic solution to this puzzle.
Still seeking a first win on turf (0-7) with a narrow win on Fibresand at Southwell (1m) being his sole success in 20 career starts; runner-up to an odds-on winner in a Ripon seller (1m2f) in May; stablemate of Jennies Gem.
All four career wins have come on the AW at Newcastle and he appears to be a shell of that horse nowadays; has tumbled down the handicap since joining the Mullineaux family; cheekpieces are added.
Veteran who was a shock 33-1 winner of this contest in 2017, beating Royal Reserve by 1½L; ran her best race for a while when hitting the frame at odds of 66-1 at Carlisle (1m1f, good to firm) ten days ago.
Always tends to give his very best at Beverley, a track which is the scene of both career wins (1m-1m2f); wasn't at all disgraced when finishing fourth to the subsequent winner Zihaam (Jennies Gem third) here in June.
Stablemate of Amity Island and a 16-race maiden; made the frame over C&D behind a subsequent winner (John Caesar fourth) last month; at the foot of the weights in a relatively modest contest; isn't discounted.
Forecasts
Bollin Ted (7/2), Quoteline Direct (7/2), Thorntoun Care (9/2), Sherzy Boy (5/1), Jennies Gem (10/1), Amity Island (14/1), Graceful Act (14/1), John Caesar (14/1), Dutch Artist (25/1), Rock Warbler (33/1), Pumaflor (33/1)
Both Jennies Gem and John Caesar sit at the foot of the weights despite having respectable (and related) C&D form behind a subsequent winner, while it's surely worth continuing to monitor the market vibes with regards Sherzy Boy on debut for Mick Easterby. However, for the probable solution we turn to the other end of the handicap with the Micky Hammond-trained QUOTELINE DIRECT. His rider Becky Smith continues to pursue winners in these Lady Riders' events across the country and this six-year-old should be figuring firmly in the mix if getting a degree more luck in-running than was the case at Pontefract last week.
- Quoteline Direct
- Sherzy Boy
- Jennies Gem
