Improving with regular racing and broke her duck when winning by 2½L over C&D (good to firm) ten days ago; 5lb higher in a weaker race (Class 6), although does have work to do with her earlier conqueror Langholm.

Seven-race maiden; hasn't taken a noticeable step forward for being introduced to longer trips; is easing slightly in the weights.

Six-race maiden; beaten ¾L by the Mark Johnston-trained Creek Island at Hamilton (1m1f, soft) in May; nowhere near as competitive in two subsequent starts; stablemate of Slaithwaite.

Havana Gold gelding; showed signs of ability but also inexperience on his first couple of starts (7f+); could fare better for the switch to handicapping; stablemate of Brutalab.

Won twice on the AW at Newcastle (7f-1m) in late 2018; back from a six-month absence with a fourth placed finish (beaten 8L) at Wetherby (1m, good to firm) in May.

Cost €100,000 as a yearling; off the mark at the seventh time of asking when making all to beat One To Go (Northern Lyte third) by 3¼L over C&D three weeks ago; major player despite a 7lb higher mark.

Six-race maiden; finished behind today's rival Langholm (eighth of 13) over C&D three weeks ago; has plenty to find despite renewing rivalry on significantly better terms.

11-race maiden (0-5 for current trainer Ollie Pears); handicap mark in absolute free-fall, but that's about all that he has in his favour; very unlikely.

Eight-race maiden; has shown a modicum of improvement by making the frame at Ripon (1m2f) the past twice, including when beaten 2L by Myklachi in a selling handicap latest; lowly rated stablemate of Smeaton.

Betting

Forecast

Northern Lyte (2/1), Langholm (11/4), Brutalab (6/1), Smeaton (7/1), George Mallory (7/1), Slaithwaite (16/1), Cuba Ruba (20/1), Melgate Majeure (25/1), Seven For A Pound (28/1), Lethal Guest (50/1)

Verdict

Seven of the ten declared runners are yet to win even a single race which serves to narrow down the focus significantly. Of those who fall into the maiden category arguably the lowly weighted Brutalab is most likely. However, it'll surely pay to focus upon the recent C&D winners LANGHOLM and Northern Lyte, with the former having a definite edge over the latter on the basis of their previous clash here three weeks ago. Anticipate the former champion Paul Hanagan having the selection in a prominent racing position from the outset.
  1. Langholm
  2. Northern Lyte
  3. Brutalab
