Third to Pretty Pollyanna at this meeting last year, and won a 7f nursery here in September on her only subsequent start. Had a bit in hand there, and is the type to improve further this year, so respected despite her absence.

Has been highly tried since winning off 7lb lower at Salisbury (7f) in April, and this is a little easier than the Listed handicap she contested at Royal Ascot last time. That said, she does have a bit to prove after finishing in the ruck there.

Novice winner over 6f at Windsor last summer, and shaped as if back to form having needed her reappearance when a respectable ninth in Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot. Could do better given her profile, but others a little more convincing.

Often highly tried last term, but won twice, including over C&D. Better than the result on her seasonal debut when sixth of 27 to Thanks Be in Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot. Capable of building on that, and one to take seriously.

Has a poor win record, but placed in Group company, for all that has blighted her chances in handicaps. Back to form when fifth of 6 to Cale Lane in a 6f handicap at Pontefract last time, but that merely underlines that her mark is stiff.

Confirmed debut promise when making all in a 7f novice at Chelmsford in November, and improved further when second to Nonchalance in a C&D novice last month. Third has won since, and this filly is sure to have more to offer.

Bated Breath half-sister to US Grade 1 winner Bellamy Road. Showed useful and progressive form in UAE for Nicholas Bachalard at up to 1m, and has since joined a leading yard. Could be anything, and market sure to be revealing.

Progressive since a winning debut aside from facing a stiff task on easy ground here in November. Took her form up another notch when third to breathtaking Look in a C&D handicap last month. Can improve further, and not one to underestimate.

Not disgraced when fifth to Ice Gala on her return at Salisbury in April, but went backwards from that at Carlisle next time. Heavy ground excuses latest defeat to some degree, but she needs to improve in any case.

Has made a reasonably solid start to life in handicaps, winning nicely over 1m here, and while she's not built on that since, she shaped better than the result at Sandown last time, and is worth trying over this shorter trip on that evidence.

Won a 6f Brighton maiden and runner-up in a nursery there on final start for John Ryan last year. Ought to win more races, but up markedly in class and out of the weights on debut for new yard, so best watched.

Forecasts

Salayel (7/2), Ice Gala (9/2), Flarepath (9/2), Chaleur (6/1), California Love (8/1), Dupioni (8/1), I Am Magical (17/2), Aim Power (11/1), Model Guest (12/1), Strict Tempo (16/1), Chynna (50/1), Red Armour (50/1)

Verdict

SALAYEL is not easy to weigh up, but this half-sister to Wood Memorial winner Bellamy Road showed progressive from in the UAE earlier this year, and has joined a yard in top form, so could easily be ahead of her initial mark. Flarepath is similarly unexposed and shaped well on her latest start over C&D, while California Love is probably the pick of a quartet who come here from the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot. Chaleur and I Am Magical also have something to recommend them in a tough heat.
  1. Salayel
  2. California Love
  3. Flarepath
