Incapable of coping with the drop in trip on handicap debut, and should be much more at home over this 1m. Much better expected now on second handicap start, and it would be a big disappointment if he didn't have something to give at this level.

Beginning to become slightly frustrating type now after a string of consistent efforts in defeat of late. Another respectable effort off this mark when third at Carlisle (1m; good to soft). Should be bang there once again.

Disappointing debut for new trainer when eighth of 11 at Beverley on seasonal reappearance (1m; good). Not one to recommend after that and hasn't won since making a successful debut back in April 2016.

Successful for the first time in just over a year when winning at Musselburgh (1m; good to firm). That was off the back of a promising effort over this C&D when fourth. Should be competitive once again off 2lb higher.

Extremely difficult to make a case for after suffering heavy defeats on all four career starts. Showed no improvement for the switch to this code when 10th in a 12-runner affair over slightly further at this course last time.

Has hinted that he may be about to hit peak form in his last two starts. Encouraging effort when fourth at Ripon (1m2f; soft) last time. Dropped a further 4lb, he is of definite interest. Market may be informative.

Second of two runners on the card for Irish yard. Struggling for form of late but has fallen a long way in the weights so he could take advantage. However, others seem a bit more convincing.

Sent off at big prices on all three starts in maidens last season and ran accordingly. Now makes his handicap debut, but would have to step up by some way on the basis of those efforts to feature here.

One of a couple in this race who hasn't been able to show any sign of a return to form despite enjoying a change of scenery. Is on a basement mark now, but that is for a reason. Best watched.

Didn't show any obvious improvement for the change of yards when sixth over C&D on debut for this yard last time out. Now 0-13 and hard to envisage him breaking his maiden duck on all he has shown so far.

Verdict

This race represents a good opportunity for PHANTASMAL to break his maiden duck at the fifth attempt. He ran respectably in a trio of maidens before finding the 5f too sharp on debut in this sphere at Newcastle last time. He will appreciate the return to 1m. Ishebayorgrey is likely to follow him home after a string of ultra-consistent efforts in defeat for his new yard lately, while the unexposed The Mekon should also play a minor role after making an encouraging handicap start when midfield over 7f at Thirsk last time out. He is another of whom the step up in trip should favour.
  1. Phantasmal
  2. Ishebayorgrey
  3. The Mekon
