Thriving of late, a second at Carlisle sandwiched between wins there and over C&D a week ago. Has a penalty to defy for latest win over Celtic Artisan, which makes his task a little tougher, but he's very much respected in his current form.

Goes well here, and gained a second course win over 1½m on his penultimate start (100/1 winner of a maiden as a 3-y-o). Ran poorly at York last time, but should bounce back, for all he's still high enough in the weights.

Well held on first two starts this year, but back to form of late, and every chance with a repeat of his latest second of 11 to Autretot at Newcastle. Often goes well here, and found a decent opportunity if continuing good run.

Remains a maiden, but competitive on form, and ran well when runner-up in a 1m handicap at Thirsk last month. Not disgraced last time, and looks worth another try at this trip given how he kept on.

Won this contest 12 months ago, and is now 1lb lower than for latest success, although a little disappointing when seventh of 11 to Edgar Allan Poe here last time, particularly as he had also won that amateur riders' race last season.

Made all to win a couple of minor AW races earlier in the year. Less effective ridden with restraint of late, but down to an attractive mark, and yard's 3-y-o's tend to flourish at this time of year.

Still a maiden in this sphere, and form is a little patchy. Not disgraced when fourth of 12 to Sigrid Nansen in an amateur handicap at Brighton on her belated return two weeks ago, but needs to build on that to get competitive.

Forecasts

Edgar Allan Poe (5/2), Quoteline Direct (9/2), Trinity Star (9/2), Bay Of Naples (7/1), Champagne Rules (7/1), Rose Crown (8/1), Kingdom Brunel (9/1)

Verdict

Edgar Allan Poe is attempting the same double completed last year by Quoteline Direct having won a lady amateurs' handicap over C&D last time. He is much respected in his current form, as is last year's hero, but TRINITY STAR is handicapped to go well at a track he likes, and has returned to form on his last two starts, so gets the vote in a tricky finale.
  1. Trinity Star
  2. Edgar Allan Poe
