Came good on his second start in a handicap in a first-time visor when seen to good effect at Chepstow (second has run well since). Made plenty of use of last time (slightly more conservative ride may see him in an even better light); leading player.

Needs to prove that he's fully effective on quicker ground but landed his handicap debut in comfortable fashion after taking time to warm to his task. Progressing all the time he stays well; may be better suited by further in time, sound chance.

Has work to do based on his sole turf outing so far over C&D (soft), that run coming in handicap company (produced a laboured effort). Form on the AW of a far better standard and would need to match that here to have a chance; good fourth last time.

Something to like about her handicap debut (every chance in a first-time hood) although the 1m2f trip did look to stretch her. Nicely handicapped on her debut form she may do better back in trip against her own sex rather than in this company.

Comes here with something to prove having yet to move forward in two starts this year although neither has gone to plan. Poorly placed the first time his handicap debut was over a trip too sharp (1m); given more of a chance over this trip.

Third on her second handicap start last time over C&D in very different conditions than she will face today she was ridden to get this trip. Better effort the time before over 1m at Goodwood; feeling is she will be better at the shorter trip.

Shaped well on his handicap debut last time over slightly further (still looked inexperienced) showing form that matched his two juvenile efforts over shorter. Still one to be interested in, will have leant plenty from that last start, respected.

Yet to win a race (0-7) and way out of her depth last time in the Cheshire Oaks, at least this will give her a fighting chance although she does run into some improvers. Would be better off in a handicap though and others preferred.

Forecasts

El Picador (3/1), Corncrake (7/2), Vexed (7/2), Tronada (7/2), Fragrant Dawn (7/1), Kingson (14/1), Fly Lightly (16/1), Wanaasah (20/1)

Verdict

This appears to be an event that will produce several winners with several in this field capable of further progress yet from what they have shown so far. EL PICADOR looks the pick of the bunch having won a little more easily than the winning margin may have suggested last time at Chepstow with more to come. Corncrake is the other last time out winner in the field and he won’t go down without a fight although a greater test may suit him better in time. Fragrant Dawn and Fly Lightly both have to step up to feature with Vexed looking the biggest danger to the main players having still looked inexperienced at Windsor last time, his pedigree suggests he’ll be capable of more.
  1. El Picador
  2. Corncrake
  3. Vexed
