Finally gained elusive first career success when off the mark at Newcastle (1m; standard to slow) last week. Drew well clear of the third and although he has to carry top-weight he should remain competitive.
Final run of 2018/first run of 2019 somewhat tempers enthusiasm. Hard to recommend but step up in trip offers some hope for improvement.
One of a couple in this contest who are unexposed. Hasn't shown obvious improvement for the switch to this sphere but this is just his third handicap start so can't be completely ruled out but does need to step up on what he has shown so far.
Two fine efforts at Redcar sandwiched by a below-par run at Nottingham since switching to new yard. Still a maiden but is lightly raced after just the nine starts. Should continue to progress and is on the shortlist.
Improved upon recent efforts to snatch a Beverley (1m2f; good) handicap recently. Needs to back that up but has been raised just 3lb by the handicapper and this isn't the most competitive race in the world.
Has found life extremely hard since winning at Pontefract (1m; good to firm) last year. Failed to beat a single rival in his last two starts. Now competes off a career-low mark and is very hard to recommend.
In the form of her life at present and is also versatile ground-wise. Justified favouritism when denying Spirit Of Sarwan at Hamilton (1m1f; soft) last time and is hard to fault in bid for the hat-trick off a 5lb higher mark.
Starting to compile a solid few runs together prior to posting an underwhelming effort when seventh at Hamilton (1m1f; good to firm) last month. Has bounced back from poor runs in the past but will need to if he is to feature.
Showed very little in four runs since returning to the track in February. Failed to complete when pulled-up at Redcar (1m2f; good to firm) last time and can only be watched on the basis of that.
Due to run at Musselburgh on Wednesday until she was declared a non-runner. Sole flat run of the year was highly promising when she finished a very close-up third over C&D. Major possibilities off an unchanged mark.
Turned out quickly again after a rare disappointing run at Musselburgh (1m; good to firm) on Wednesday when not unfancied (4-1). Bit to prove now on the face of it, but not impossible to see him going better than he did through the week.
16-race maiden. Been sent off at large prices every time she has ran. No evidence to suggest she is a likely player in a contest where others have much more compelling form in these type of events.
Clear best run in recent times came over C&D two starts back, but that was on heavy ground. Much quicker conditions to contend with now off the same mark. Hard to enthuse over.
Much more promising at Beverley (1m2f; good) - probably the best he has ran all year - when fourth last time. Needs to build upon that, but definite place claims if he is able to do so.
Sent off at 50-1 on both starts this year and has ran accordingly. 5lb below last winning mark now but no reason to believe he will be returning to his best form at present. Excruciatingly hard to recommend.

Red Seeker (7/2), Betty Grable (5/1), Home Before Dusk (5/1), Millie The Minx (5/1), Dutch Coed (7/1), Lukoutoldmakezebak (11/1), Captain Scott (14/1), Splash Of Verve (18/1), Rock Island Line (20/1), The Mekon (20/1), Highwayman (25/1), John Caesar (33/1), Maldonado (33/1), Pumaflor (33/1), Bob's Girl (33/1), Graceful Act (66/1)
This is a seriously competitive affair with five or six making the shortlist, including Dutch Coed who surged back to form at Beverley last time and the lightly raced Red Seeker. Home Before Dusk showed a willing attitude in a first-time visor to break his maiden duck at Newcastle last week and the handicapper didn't react too harshly for that win. She was third on her sole flat run of 2019 over C&D when going agonisingly close and Millie The Minx remains of definite interest but preference is for the in-form BETTY GRABLE. Things seemed to have clicked for her of late and she should make a bold bid for the hat-trick off a 5lb higher mark.
- Betty Grable
- Millie The Minx
- Home Before Dusk
