Formerly with Joseph O'Brien; has consistently knocked at the door (32533) since joining this trainer for 26,000gns last October; kept on inside the final furlong when finishing 2L third to Moss Gill at Ripon (5f, soft) 16 days ago.
Had shown some useful form in novice contests, including when winning at Newcastle (6f) in April prior to making his handicap debut over C&D (heavy) last month; he didn't deliver the goods then (11/4f) but it remains early days; ground?
Progressive throughout the early months of the season and seen to maximum effect when adopting forcing tactics; 7lb higher than when beating Queen Of Burgundy by 1½L at Ripon (6f, good).
Class 5 Bath nursery winner (5½f, good to firm) last back end; 6lb higher in the weights; it's safe to ignore the form of his seasonal reappearance at Sandown - stumbled at the start and never in the hunt thereafter; others are still more appealing.
16-1 winner of a Newmarket fillies' maiden (7f, good to firm) in May; very low-key on handicap debut at Doncaster a few weeks later; drops in trip (could help) but does need to bounce back swiftly.
Won decisively on Tapeta at Newcastle (6f) last week; turned out quickly under a penalty over 5f at Catterick on Monday (finishing only a modest seventh of eight); this track should prove more suitable; officially is 2lb ahead of the handicapper.
Soft ground winning juvenile (5f, Hamilton); things hadn't really clicked into place this season (eased 8lb in the handicap) until appearing to be back on the right track at Hamilton last week (fourth); no cheekpieces tonight?
Forecasts
Magical Spirit (9/4), Pendleton (11/4), Kapono (7/2), Tenax (9/2), Autumn Flight (14/1), Michaels Choice (16/1), Manana Chica (22/1)
KAPONO was a decisive winner at Newcastle (6f) last week and should appreciate the return to a more conventional track after disappointing under a penalty over 5f at Catterick on Monday. Roger Fell is evidently very keen to get another win into his three-year-old Kuroshio gelding before his revised BHA mark kicks into action. Of the others both Pendleton and Magical Spirit have displayed plenty of ability with the latter strongest when on the sharp end throughout, although admittedly he's now 7lb higher than when scoring at Ripon latest.
- Kapono
- Magical Spirit
- Autumn Flight
