1-4 over fences, having won by 10L on his debut in this sphere at Market Rasen (3m, good) in February. Badly out of sorts since then, however, giving him plenty to prove here.

Listed hurdle win at Cheltenham in November 2016 remains his most recent. Placed in five of his eight chases but poor form has seen him plummet to this career-low mark. Couldn't take advantage of similar when favourite at Plumpton on last chase run.

Won over a similar trip (good) at Ffos Las for Nick Williams in May last year, when just 1lb lower. Changed hands for just £2,200 prior to recent stable debut here over hurdles, when well held. Cheekpieces on for return to chasing. Interesting.

Scored over hurdles at a similar trip at Tramore (good) last August. Not a bad effort over fences back there when last seen last month, and not written off from the prize money if able to repeat.

Won for the first time under rules when springing a 16-1 surprise at Ffos Las (3m, good) recently. Front pair 14L clear there (joint favourite second), so 10lb rise probably fair, but this will be tougher now.

Returned on a positive after wind surgery when 4L second in a Kelso novices' handicap chase (2m1f, good) last month. Same mark here, and longer trip positive for this point winner. Should be thereabouts.

Scored at this meeting last year over 3m1½f (good), when 7lb lower, and ran well over C&D two starts later, when 2½L second from today's mark. Returns fit from a spell in points, and should be competitive.

1-23 over fences, having broken his chasing duck at the 21st attempt at Sedgefield (2m3½f, good) in April, when 5lb lower. Well held both runs since, however, including over C&D last time. Others preferred.

Won three chases last year, the latest from 5lb higher at Hexham (2m4f, good) almost a year ago to the day. Had a spell in the doldrums after that, but shaped as if a revival was on the cards last time, so not ruled out of the money.

Unseated and pulled up (latest run) on his only two tries here. Has won one of his nine chases, but probably no more than competitive even if at his best from this mark. Visor may help.

1-16 over fences, the win coming at Catterick (2m3f, good to soft) in 2017. Has made the frame numerous times since then, including over C&D last time from today's mark. Not ruled out of the money again.

2-38 over fences, and not as good as he was three or four seasons ago. Managed a 12L second over a similar trip in a moderate Market Rasen contest last time, and not written off despite being 8lb 'wrong' here.

Forecasts

Againn Dul Aghaidh (7/2), Damiens Dilemma (9/2), Anteros (9/2), Paddling (11/2), Cantkidakidder (8/1), Lovely Schtuff (9/1), Ever So Much (10/1), Bocasien Desbois (16/1), Larkhall (22/1), Jeu De Mots (22/1), Burning Issues (33/1), Samtu (40/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these have frame claims if running to their current abilities, including Larkhall, Paddling, Ever So Much, Damiens Dilemma and Cantkidakidder. Lovely Schtuff is of interest now upped again in trip and could go close, while Againn Dul Aghaidh is much respected after scoring last time. Even so, a chance is taken on JEU DE MOTS, who returns to chasing in cheekpieces for a yard going well, and he might represent a bit of value.
